EA Sports: 'How big can football get?' Us: 'Pretty big, we guess?'

Showing the far reaching effects of football ("soccer" for us Americans) fandom in a succinct two minute video, EA Sports asks UK residents in its latest ad for FIFA 10, "How big can football get?" From the looks of the insanity in the commercial (found after the break), we're going out on a limb here and saying, "Substantially large." Would you care to up that wager with a "significantly enormous?" Maybe a "demonstrably massive?"

Rumor: Japanese YouTube ad leaks Japanese FFXIII release date

A giant Final Fantasy XIII ad has appeared on YouTube for users in Japan, advertising the reveal of the game's release date sometime tomorrow -- that's a "few weeks" after the announcement of the release date was announced, mind you. Some 2ch users didn't feel like waiting until tomorrow, however, and started messing with the URL of the ad. All that was required to trigger the release date display was the substitution of the word "after" for "before" in the URL, and the above image came up.

According, at least, to this Flash file linked by a fansite (though hosted on the 2mdn domain of ad company Doubleclick), the Japanese release date for Final Fantasy XIII is December 17, 2009. We did not think it was really going to come out in 2009. Of course, there's still plenty of time to delay it.

The Beatles: Rock Band visits Abbey Road

In a 30-second clip that we're not exactly sure came from this decade, MTV Games/Harmonix preview upcoming music/rhythm game The Beatles: Rock Band by way of a big party on Abbey Road. No, we don't mean the street itself, we mean that the enormously famous album cover got turned into a big ol' 30-second party in celebration of the upcoming game. Other than a somewhat creepy faux John Lennon around the halfway mark, this commercial provides yet another reason to be more excited than ever for the day that the Dreamcast turns 10.

NFS: Shift 'Driver's Experience' video profiles begin this Friday night

The folks at EA dropped a teaser video on us today (seen above) for Need for Speed: Shift's tie-in video series, "The Driver's Experience." Premiering this Friday evening/Saturday morning on YouTube -- and likely here, dearest readers -- the show is said to profile various race car drivers associated with the game.

More specifically, it will focus on the experience of speeding around places like the Nürburgring. A personal look into the human face behind those who drive multi-million dollar sponsored race cars sounds like a hoot, but we're not sure how much it'll effect our need to play the final product over those other perfectly competent (and proven) racing sims. We'll just have to tune in on Friday at midnight (EST) to find out.

Rumor: Xbox Avatar golf game

Supposedly leaked footage of Avatars playing golf has hit YouTube this week (find it after the break) and some are wondering if it's video of an upcoming golf title featuring the Xbox 360 characters. At E3 2009, Microsoft revealed the casual racing title Joyride -- a free, upcoming XBLA game featuring Avatars -- so it isn't out of the question for Avatars to star in another casual game.

The footage showcases Avatars enjoying a rousing game of golf, but still looks very early in development (if it even is). Perhaps it is an actual upcoming game, but it could also be some an Avatar update to the XBLA title 3D Ultra Minigolf or even some XNA-based genius. Time will tell on this rumor.

Hustle Kings: A really perdy Pool game for PSN

Rack 'em up ladies and gents because Hustle Kings is heading to a PS3 near you. First showcased at E3 2009, the upcoming pool title is planned to hit the PlayStation Network exclusively this winter. Hustle Kings sports "photo-realistic" graphics, up-to 256 online-player game lobbies, YouTube uploading, Trophies and in-game video chat. Virtual pool sharks will be happy to hear the final product will launch with a plethora of game modes, including 8-Ball, Black-Ball (UK 8-Ball), 9-Ball, Trick-Shots and more. Hustle Kings will also support custom music from the XMB, but we're pretty sure you'll only be able to listen to Rick Ross while you play the game. Selecting any other tracks will cause your PS3 to explode ... probably.

Rumor: Halo 3: ODST Achievements leaked

(click to Scorpion-size)

In what will assuredly not be the last leak of the summer from Halo 3: ODST as we lead up to its fall release, the entire achievement list has allegedly hit YouTube via Game-Tuts. While the list doesn't reveal any shocking surprises, it does tell us quite a bit about where the game's campaign mode will take us.

According to the list, "Vidmaster" achievements will be making an appearance in the game, as well as all the de rigeur cheevos for regular ol' campaign objectives. Also unsurprisingly, campaign scoring and co-op achievements appear to be making a return in ODST. We'd love to tell you more about the rumored achievement list but, alas, we may start walking into spoiler territory if we do -- and you wouldn't want that, right? You'll just have to head after the break for the whole thing, spoilers in-tow (you've been warned!). We've contacted Bungie regarding the validity of this list and have yet to hear back as of publishing.

Comet Crash patch adds YouTube recording

It's one of the best (and most underused) features of the PS3: the ability to record gameplay footage onto YouTube. The quietly-released strategy PSN game, Comet Crash, is getting a new patch that adds YouTube recording, amongst other features:
  • Flag icons added to scoreboard. If you have an existing score, you have to get a better score in order to register your flag.
  • Save Data for Campaign progress.
  • Campaign time penalties are now applied as they occur, instead of at the end of the game.
  • Rank is displayed in Area Complete screen.
  • Building on top of units of the same team will destroy them instead of floating them.
  • In Battle mode, the player that destroys an enemy base gets a Thorium bonus.
It's nice to see more games start taking advantage of YouTube support. Imagine a future where all PS3 and PSN games offer some kind of in-game screenshot and YouTube functionality. That would be pretty stellar!

Free Sackboys for UK LBP YouTube channel subscribers

Residents of the UK can count themselves lucky today as their geographic location permits them a free, official wool Sackboy, courtesy of the LittleBigPlanet YouTube channel. It's easy to get your hands on yours, simply subscribe to the channel and either email or private message (via YouTube) your name and address. Sackboys will be sent out on a weekly basis, so it won't be long before you'll find yours sliding through your letterbox.

The giveaway will end on July 1 and there are enough Sackboys for the first 5000 subscribers who send over their details. We're interested to see what these woolen Sackboys actually look like and whether they'll be available for purchase at a later date. Customizable, perhaps? We can only hope.

Qtv launching IPTV service on ... PlayStation 2

Qtv unveiled plans to push its "all-in-one" streaming media player to home consoles at the National Association of Broadcasters trade show (NAB 2009), held yesterday in Las Vegas. While other streaming services exist in the current console market, Qtv will begin testing the service in the U.S. using the PlayStation 2 as its base platform, with plans to move to newer consoles at a later time.

Included in the Qtv package is access to YouTube and other streaming video services, as well as Internet radio. The Qtv media player will also allow users to grab and share content -- such as pictures, music and videos of various formats (DivX, h.264, XviD and more) -- from other compatible devices. With the service set to launch later this year, Qtv plans to turn PS2 users into HDTV set-top owners for "less than $50." An interesting proposition ... if we could remember which of our younger relatives we gave our system to.

Reggie: DSiWare about quality, not quantity, third-party titles coming soon

Wired recently talked with Nintendo president Reggie FIls-Aime and the upcoming DSi was obviously a focal point of the conversation. More specifically, when quizzed about the DSi Shop and potential DSiWare that will populate its virtual shelves, Reggie wanted to stress that Nintendo will be focusing on quality titles, and not an overabundance of games and apps, like one might see on the iPhone.

Reggie rather smartly compares the emphasis on quality over quantity to that of a film festival and YouTube. He says Nintendo will focus on "high-class content done by knowledgeable developers," instead of the "YouTube approach of everything under the sun that is difficult for the consumer to navigate through."

He also says that the company will be granting third parties licenses to develop DSiWare and titles should be available around six weeks after the DSi's launch. But, he stresses that these companies need to create experiences unique to the platform and not available anywhere else, so don't expect a DSi version of SSFIITHDR or anything.

Sony launches official LittleBigPlanet YouTube page

Sackboys have invaded YouTube. The official LittleBigPlanet UK YouTube page has launched today in conjunction with a new competition -- Around The World In 80 Sackboys. A video -- shamelessly parodying the Where The Hell Is Matt? viral series -- will introduce you to the competition at the top of the page. In order to take part, simply create a level based on any geographic location on the planet. Other users will vote on the best and the winner, chosen by Media Molecule, will win a pair of round-the-world tickets, 14 nights accommodation and £1000 spending money.

The YouTube page will be constantly updated with a "favourites section, featured users, tutorials from Media Molecule themselves, cultural collaborations, challenges, event promotions and footage." Hopefully, it won't be too long before Media Molecule add YouTube uploading to LittleBigPlanet via a patch, making entering this competition and having your LBP videos favorited much easier.

Upload a HAWX video to YouTube, win prizes

Ubisoft's HAWX is one of the few PS3 games that take advantage of one of the systems' most under-utilized features: YouTube video uploads. You can record footage from the game and upload it directly to YouTube -- and now, with a new contest from Ubisoft, you have more reason to give this feature a try.

To enter the contest, players must simply upload a video, up to two minutes in length, to the video sharing service. You can only use the in-game upload feature; you cannot edit the video on a PC, for example. The title of the video must also follow this format: "HAWX UPLOAD CONTEST [PSN ID]." There's no limit to how many videos can be submitted, but prizes are limited to one per person.

The top three most viewed videos until the end of March will each receive a Saitek Aviator Flight Stick. For full details on the contest, click here.

Speed painting Halo 3: ODST, like ... really fast!

How long did it take to paint the Mona Lisa? Had Sean "Str8Artist" McCoy been responsible, probably not very long at all. Of course, we much prefer him spending (little) time on things like his rapidly assembled Halo 3: ODST painting. Watch the speed painting video after the break and view Str8Artist's other work on his YouTube channel, including a painted tribute to Gears of War's Carmine. (Rest in peace ... our headless friend.)

PS3's H.A.W.X. supports YouTube video uploads

Thanks to the H.A.W.X. development blog, we just learned that the Playstation 3 version of Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. will support YouTube video uploads. It's a feature that'll really showcase the game's satellite-generated landscapes.

Embedded above is a video demo of the new uploading system and, from our brief analysis, the entire process looks relatively easy. Simply record a short jet-fighter clip -- featuring some amazing dogfighting, a few barrel rolls and lots of "pew-pew-pew" action -- and then log in and upload to YouTube in game. No computer required!

Now, if only we could find a reason and a way to integrate H.A.W.X. into our Twitter feed ...
