The Ultimate Alliance forms again in 2009

Fans of the latest Marvel dungeon crawler, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, know that a sequel to your beloved game is inbound, however it's going to take a bit longer than you might like. You see, the sequel to the first game isn't going to be on shelves until next year. Here, cry on our shoulder. Go ahead, let it all out!

Our cruel overlords at Joystiq seem to think that the new Spider-Man: Web of Shadows game could have something to do with the delay. As for us, well, we're not complaining if the time is put to good use. The first game was a boatload of fun, so we hope the sequel is just as good, if not better.

WRUP: web-head edition

With this week's releases sitting on store shelves and waiting for your eager hands to whisk them away to a land of ecstasy and wonder, we're pretty sure there's just one title beeping on your radar. That game is none other than Spider-Man 3. While we can honestly say we'll be seeing the movie before we play the game, we're fairly certain that upon leaving the theater, we'll want to swing around a virtual New York.

Will you be joining us? If not, what do you plan on playing this weekend?

Latest Spider-Man 3 commercial shows controls, compassion

Those of us who've seen the producer video interview and read about the control scheme, yet still have a tough time imagining how we'll be playing the game, look no further. The embedded trailer, past the post break, provides a bit of humor along side a controls demonstration. And it features Bruce Campbell narrating! Seriously, what else do you need from us? Haven't you ever seen Army of Darkness? Don't you even care about our feelings?

Friendly neighborhood Spider-Man 3 tutorial video

In this video, Activision's Jay Boone explains how the Wiimote and Nunchuk controls for the upcoming Spider-Man 3 game will enable players to do whatever a spider can. Some of the controls seem natural, like mapping combat to both hands, and some seem more ... interesting, like using both a Wiimote movement and a button press to swing on a web.

We don't want to get off on a nerd tangent here, but -- no, scratch that, we want to get off on a nerd tangent. Requiring a button press for web shooting would make perfect sense for the comic version of Peter Parker, with button-activated web shooters, but not for the movie Spidey with organic webs. We know we're being picky, but developer Treyarch seems to want to simulate the web-shooting experience.

Spidey 3 producer conducts video Q & A on game

Chris Archer, producer on the upcoming game based on the film Spider-Man 3, recently conducted another interview, this time with Gamespot. This interview is in video form and was taken during an event in San Francisco where the first game footage was shown. The interview talks about how Treyarch is looking to make everything bigger this time around (bigger environments, bigger dramatic moment, bigger boss battles etc.) and the difficulties of handling an IP with such an incredible fan base.

Chris also reveals that the game will have ten different possible story lines, with one being the actual movie story line. The game is slated for a May release on all major consoles.

Spidey 3 producer talks controls for Wii

Treyarch's last outing with your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man provided a great fan service in digitally recreating Manhatten and letting players swing about the city to their heart's content. The other stuff ... well, nobody really cared that much. Treyarch looks to recreate the fun of swinging about the city, but also provide more value to the gamer this time around. In speaking with IGN, they talked about the game across all platforms, providing a small glimpse into how it will control on the Wii.

Executive Producer Chris Archer reveals "The Wii controller, we literally use it to swing. Both hands. You're using it to swing and do web attacks and hand-to-hand combat and things like that. It seems really cool." Wow, that actually sounds like a lot of fun, wouldn't you say? Before, in Spider-Man 2, the web-slinging felt so good, maybe it'll even be more immersive and fun this time around. What say you all?

Screenshot explosion: Spider-Man: Battle for NY

In the latest adventure starring everyone's favorite friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, the web-head finds himself up against several baddies in the shadows of New York skyscrapers. With an unlikely ally in the Green Goblin, having recently escaped the clutches of S.H.I.E.L.D. and hooked up with the Kingpin for cash and mayhem. Playing as Spidey, you must stop them, naturally causing as much chaos and destruction as you can with the Green Goblin.

Spider-Man 3 swinging onto Revolution soon

IGN Revolution guy Matt recently posted that the friendly neighborhood webhead himself would be starring in the upcoming Revolution title based on the third movie Spider-Man 3. Activision has confirmed that they will have at least one title ready for Nintendo's new console launch, yet it isn't very feasible that this title is to be the one as the movie is set for release sometime in 2007.

In the spirit of speculation, Matt also goes on to suggest the ways in which the Revolution's remote can be used to interface with the game. Considering that web-slinging in the Spider-Man 2 game was near addictive, how do you think the implementation of the remote can improve upon that?
