UK raid uncovers DS carts loaded with $12K of pirated software

In a raid executed last Sunday, 85,000 "discs" of pirated software and other counterfeit goods were seized at an East Yorkshire market. One notable bit of contraband brought in by the haul was a pile of carts marked Volume 9 DS Games, each cart loaded with £6,000 ($11,859) of DS games according to the Entertainment Leisure And Software Publishers' Association's team of "forensics experts."

The ELSPA reports that the Volume 9 DS Games carts have been circulating for the past month and contain approximately 200 commercial releases, which explains where the £6,000 estimate sprung from (£30 x 200). We did the math -- well, actually, our calculators did the math -- and you would have to mow about 593 lawns to raise enough money to purchase that many games. That is, of course, assuming you're not one of our smart (and handsome) readers who follow our regular posts on video game bargains.

We know a few of you out there are pirates -- you make sure to rub it in our face whenever we lament about overpriced new releases and expensive imports. Have you bootlegged anything close to £6,000 of commercial DS games? Have you packed all those black-market ROMs into one cart to create your own Volume 9 DS Games collection? And how did you end up spending the money that should've gone to the people who worked hard to create the products you filched?

Crook hides cash in gutted consoles

Authorities discovered £12,000 ($23,758 USD) stuffed inside four game consoles belonging to a man suspected of running an illegal PSP memory card and chipping business. Videogamer reports that during the raid at the man's home in the Tower Hamlet section of London, authorities started taking apart consoles with the expectation of finding illegal mod chips -- instead they found bags of cash where the hard drive should have been.

I case you're wondering, the cash was stored in one original Xbox holding £5,925, and three PS2s with £2,835, £2,025 and £1,425. It seems no next-gen consoles were harmed in the implementation of the illegal business.

Chinese government raids company, attempts to seize funds

The folks at Insert Credit recently received a disturbing e-mail from an employee of Chinese electronics/game peripheral manufacturing company, Firstsing. According to the letter, the Chinese government raided the headquarters, seized the computers, and have held most of the employees for questioning. Some have been kept in excess of 100 hours. The authorities are trying to get someone to admit wrongdoing so the government can "legally" take the company's funds, apparently because Firstsing is doing well in a poorer neighborhood and the government wants a piece of the action.

It isn't known if Firstsing is guilty of any sort of chicanery, but the way employees are being treated is distressing. They've been told that their families may be held in captivity for up to a month, and the author of the e-mail fears for their safety.

Raid Over the River trailer

Hot on the heels of the smaller tech demo that NIBRIS recently showed us is this fairly lengthy trailer for Raid Over the River. While mostly comprised of cutscenes, the trailer does feature some gameplay that looks very exciting. Now that we've actually seen something concrete on the game from NIBRIS, we're anxious to get our hands on the game.

Raid Over the River gameplay footage

They still need to finish painting their logo? You know, NIBRIS has been talking about Raid Over the River for quite some time now, providing little-to-no explanation of the method to their madness. That is, until now. Over at the Gamespot forums, one of the NIBRIS staff dropped a small tech demo for the DS version of their upcoming title Raid Over the River. While only a short clip, it manages to boast some amazing graphics and what already looks to be an equally wonderful gameplay experience. A direct link to the video may be found here.

NIBRIS without Sadness at E3

According to Advanced Media Network, they were notified via email today that Polish publisher NIBRIS would be unable to show their recently announced title Sadness at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo as they are without publisher. AMN have said that they expect their other title for the Revolution, Raid Over the River, to in fact be making it to the show. There is a silver lining to this dark cloud, however, as NIBRIS has confirmed that they will have new media to present for Sadness come the end of April.

In depth: Raid Over the River

NIBRIS has been so kind as to provide an extensive array of pictures and content of the most delicious sort in regards to their upcoming Revolution title Raid Over the River. The lucky recipients over at Revolution Report have up an extensive 4 page first look into the title.

"The main character of the game is a 40 year-old veteran of the "Sand Storm" operation, named David McBride. He discovers, by pure coincidence, the plans of the "Molayarius" sect which wants to summon a demon by the name of "Bafomet" into existence. By co-operating with one of the members of the sect (who continuously sabotages their actions), David strives to halt Molayarius' plans."

The article also goes on to provide overviews of not only the other characters who'll be in the game and the two main organizations, The Molayar and Order of the Nine, who represent the evil and good respectively. This war between the two takes place throughout several different time periods including World War II (yawn), the year 2024, and the time of Antiquity where Ramzes the 2nd reigned.

Also, the piece goes into some details regarding every mission in the game, so those who would not wish to have it spoiled for them might want to stop reading at page 2.
