Golden Axes, Crystal Balls & Magic Wands

More accurately classified as level exits than perishable items, these are good for one thing: Getting out. Typical of boss battles with Birdo, Bowser or his many kids (who is their mother?), grab one of these sparkling trinkets and it will show you the way.

Side note: The ax was substituted for a skull switch in New Super Mario Bros., which is kind of weak. Swinging an axe to cut the bridge ropes is definitely more hardcore. I mean Bowser falls into searing magma either way, but still.
