Podoboo

First appearance: Super Mario Bros.

Relatives and variants: Fire Snake, Hot Foot, Lava Drop

Special characteristics: enjoys jumping from lava pools right when Mario is overhead, very hot in temperature

Simply translating to "bubble," the Podoboo are living bits of flame and lava which apparently have an allegiance to Bowser. They can be seen with or without eyes, but make no mistake, they will make you small. While fire is employed by a number of enemies in the Mario series--not to mention Mario himself--Podoboo are unique in that, and allow us to reiterate, they are living fire and do not like you. A rare form called Hot Foot will give chase when Mario's back is turned, not unlike Boo. Cowards.
