Is this the end?

Now, four years after the latest Mario Golf game, Nintendo has dramatically shifted their focus to developing the Wii series of games, like Wii Sports and its forthcoming sequel, Wii Sports Resort. Will Nintendo continue in the Mario Golf tradition and offer up a pair of Wii / DS iterations that communicate much like the Gamecube and N64 games? Is Wii Sports the next best thing? Is the Mario Golf series forever defunct?!
