Amazon is Samba de Amigo's friend today

Amazon's Deal of the Day is one of those games we've wanted to try, but felt the investment was too risky: Samba de Amigo. Maybe you experienced similar trepidation: at $30 or even $20, it would be a terrible disappointment if the Wiimote/Nunchuk controls failed to accurately imitate the Dreamcast's maraca controllers.

At $10, however, the risk is minimal and the potential reward -- a candy-colored world of super-happy cartoon monkeys and exciting music -- seems worth it. Besides, it is a music game that has Ulala in it, and is therefore by definition better than 90% of the world's music games.

Fire Emblem: Stopwatch Deal

If you can't be bothered to go to a store to pick up Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (and we're not implying that you should have to), GameStop has a pretty attractive deal for you -- for the next day or so. As their Stopwatch Deal, they're offering free two-day shipping on orders of the strategy remake. Just enter the promotional code MARTH when you check out!

In addition, preorders for Fire Emblem will receive a "Limited Edition, matted, 5 x 7, Fire Emblem art cell." Free shipping and free stuff? We love being incentivized to do things we were going to do anyway.

Economy Wars: Galaxies

We fear that this deal will sell out in the time it takes for us to get the post up, but it's a risk we're going to have to take! Geometry Wars: Galaxies is Amazon's Deal of the Day, dropping for today only to ten damn dollars. In these harsh times, we understand that some of us can't drop even ten dollars on unexpected impulse purchases. If you are safely in possession of enough disposable income to bring some awesome shooty action home -- and if you've got plenty saved up -- you could do a lot worse than to throw a little bit of money towards some awesome portable shooty action!

Our post image is an encore from a previous Geo Wars sale post. Eric's image was just so perfect that we wanted to highlight it once again!

N-Strike's price Nerfed by GameStop

We've been eager to try out EA's Nerf N-Strike since its October release, tempted as we are by the insane Nerf gun/Wii gun shell peripheral, but the $60 price point has kept us at bay. It is based on a toy license, after all, and $60 is a big risk for that.

But $40 is approaching a reasonable price point for the set. Luckily, that is just the price to which GameStop has just marked the bundle down! Now we have to ask ourselves the tough question: if we thought the Zapper was overpriced at $20, is it worth twenty more for a Zapper that we can also bother people with?

A Luminous Gold Box from Amazon

One of Amazon's all-video-game Gold Box Deals today, scheduled for 6PM PST, features the teaser text "Get bonus goodies with this radiant crescent." We puzzled out the completely transparent clue all by ourselves, guessing that it was Luminous Arc 2 with its included soundtrack CD. Then, just as we were congratulating ourselves for our moderate riddle-solving skills, Atlus totally spoiled the ending with an email to their "Atlus Faithful" mailing list, confirming the identity of the offer. It must have felt nice for them to reveal something early after all the ESRB spoilers.

Now all we don't know is the price drop the game will temporarily receive -- but at least it's getting one. The $36.99 that Amazon currently charges for the SRPG is painful.

Deals for Guitar Heroes of all levels

If you're one of the eight individuals on the planet yet to acquire Guitar Hero Something, roughly now would be a good time to start. In a heartwarming display of post-festive cheer bid to rid itself of excess stock, the troubled Circuit City is offering savings on two Guitar Hero game/guitar bundles: Guitar Hero III and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, both for $47.99.

Alternatively, if you're a grizzled, orange-button-happy Guitar Hero veteran whose home and life is being gradually consumed by plastic peripherals, Amazon is willing to sell you Guitar Hero World Tour for $34.99 -- sans another instrument.

Deal of the Day: Spongebob Squarepants Edition

We really, really liked Drawn to Life, so we view Drawn to Life: SpongeBob SquarePants Edition with both curiosity and trepidation. On the one hand, hey, more Drawn to Life! On the other hand, it's more Drawn to Life without the guiding hand of developer 5th Cell, and with a license we aren't young enough or high enough to appreciate.

If we were going to take the plunge and just buy the thing to satisfy our curiosity, today would be a pretty good day for that. Amazon has marked Drawn to Life: SpongeBob SquarePants Edition down to $17.98 for today only. And we wouldn't have to be seen in a GameStop buying a SpongeBob game. Or in a GameStop at all.

Real Ultimate Buying Power today on Amazon [update]

"One skilled in the art of stealth -- Nintendo DS". That's the hint Amazon is offering for a Gold Box deal that will go up today at 6PM PST. We don't know the exact identity of the offer, but we can speculate!

Our guess is Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword, which just happens to be one of the best games of 2008. What a delight it would be to get it at one of the best prices of 2008! Other ninja-related games we can think of offhand include N+ (another honoree!), Ninjatown (wow, a lot of ninja games in our top 10), Tenchu: Dark Secret (not so great), various Naruto releases, the Izunas, Ninja Reflex, and Taito's Legend of Kage 2 -- which you can get for cheap right now.

[Update: it's Ninjatown for $20!]

Target is having a sale where key Wii titles will be discounted. If you didn't get check any of these titles out, but wanted to, now might be the time to head on over to your local Target store. Also, we're not sure if the sale price on Madden 09 applies to just the Xbox 360 version, or all versions of the game, so keep that in mind if you're thinking about throwing the virtual pigskin around.

All DS accessories cheap(er) at Amazon

Amazon has stripped 10% from the price of all its gaming accessories in an offer that lasts until January 10th.

Okay, so 10% isn't a very significant discount -- especially where already cheap accessories are concerned -- but these are harsh times. And besides, we think $13.49 for one of Hori's splendid Charge Stands is great value. $7.19 for those Star Wars Lightsaber styli isn't too shabby, either -- you could pick up the illuminating versions for $15.29 for covert beneath-the-sheets DS sessions while you were there!

Check out more doodads here. Does anything take your fancy?

Amazon celebrates new year with savings on accessories

Those of you who still have some spare cash in your wallet at the conclusion of yet another holiday season, know that Amazon wants it. They've put all of their gaming accessories on sale, taking 10% off the price of certain items. If you were looking for that extra Wiimote (and aren't expecting it as a gift), they qualify. Or, you could just grab Wii Play with a Wiimote, if you're into that sort of thing. The Nyko Perfect Shot, the Zapper, WiiSpeak, and even Wii Wheels qualify. There's a lot to check out.

Planning on picking something up? Do it before January 10, 2009. Offer expires then.

Have a brush with Okami for $25

More lovely Okami art here.

Here's a bargain you should wolf down with a quickness: GameStop is currently selling Okami for the low, low price of $24.99.

We're a tad late to this one (we are reliably informed it's been at this price for a few days, so you should definitely tell us this in the comments, perhaps adding "lawl old"), but when a game as great as Clover's masterpiece is so cheap, it doesn't harm to remind you again. Also, by providing fifty hours plus of entertainment for under twenty-five bucks, this is the perfect game for a recession!
