The new multiplayer mode in
New Super Mario Bros. Wii is great, as is the apparent difficulty of the new levels. We're curious about the Super Guide feature as well. But for some
Mario fans, the real draw to the latest sidescroller can be seen above: the
Koopalings, returning for the first time in a traditional
Mario game since
Super Mario World. While, of course, we'd still prefer a 2D adventure, Iggy, Morton, et al. have made the transition to 3D quite well!
Nintendo released that render along with some other character and enemy art, and an image of the bizarre all-red box art. See what a Goomba looks like
now in our gallery. Spoiler: pretty much like it always looks.

cool. just to clarify, they were in Super Mario Bros 3, not Super Mario World.
yourlefthand @ Oct 26th 2009 1:37PM
Wow. Did you actually play either of those games?
Fail!
Sam the Deaf @ Oct 26th 2009 1:39PM
Since Super Mario World, that was the last game these evil kids was in there!
Henri made in ore @ Oct 26th 2009 2:06PM
Looks like someone never played Super mario world D:
tkAshur @ Oct 26th 2009 3:45PM
Wow...did you play mario world? Or have you ever even owned a snes?
Maulok @ Oct 26th 2009 1:35PM
I thought they had been permanently erased from Mario history (like crossdressing Birdo) after that bratty Koopa kid from Mario Sunshine started popping up everywhere. Glad to see them back!!
GewurztraminerX @ Oct 26th 2009 2:11PM
Yeah! Here's hoping they beat the tar outta Jr!

I really can't wait!Do you guys know if you get somekind of bonus if you preorder NSMBWII at gamestop?
kaymacklo @ Oct 26th 2009 2:29PM
Gamestop gives an extra 25% if you trade in games to reserve NSMBW. That is on top of the extra 10% you get just for having an Edge card...so 35% extra... not too shabby!
Henri made in ore @ Oct 26th 2009 2:34PM
Ah that's ok.Too bad they don't have that special box thingy like in UK
Phenylketonurics @ Oct 26th 2009 2:20PM
Oh man, rad. I could possibly overlook the missing feather power-up because of the smooth work on the Koopalings here. I wonder if their battle environments will maintain the a similar scheme as their old Super Mario World counterparts?
Now if those Reznors make it in...
bongoes Sector 2814 @ Oct 26th 2009 3:03PM
I love that red box art.
xSHiNOx @ Oct 26th 2009 3:56PM
wow the koopa kids are back. nice nintendo. i bet they will be bosses in the game
Santos L. Halper @ Oct 26th 2009 3:59PM
Safe bet....
Mr. Fister @ Oct 26th 2009 3:59PM
"Since Super Mario World, that was the last game these evil kids was in there!"
Incorrect. They were in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga towards the end, and you had to solve their puzzles before you fought them.
Viney @ Oct 26th 2009 4:08PM
To be fair, they did say "traditional" mario game.
The Alex @ Oct 26th 2009 4:01PM
"While, of course, we'd still prefer a 2D adventure, Iggy, Morton, et al. have made the transition to 3D quite well!"
This sentence doesn't make any sense... isn't New Super Mario Bros Wii a 2D adventure? So... ...
----
Anyways, the addition of the Koopalings is very cool indeed... maybe Nintendo will release a New Super Mario Bros Wii 2 with a "Super Mario Bros 2" theme (complete with a return of Wart...).
SoshiKitai @ Oct 26th 2009 4:41PM
I think they're saying they LOOK good in 3D.
They adventure's 2D, but the graphics are 3D nonetheless.
They could have screwed up completely by turning them 3D, in all honesty.
Santos L. Halper @ Oct 26th 2009 4:46PM
Glad someone else noticed that. The characters in the game are kind of 3D like in NSMB on DS but the game is still a side-scroller so "the transition to 3D".....uh, not really JC.
JC sucks at his job but I guess it's pretty hard to get fired from a gaming blog.
Mduck @ Oct 27th 2009 12:48AM
uhm.. no, JC doesn't suck at his job, he's actually one of the most active bloggers on the nintendo section of joystiq.
I personally don't like his style, but that's just my opinion, doesn't mean he actually sucks.
Santos L. Halper @ Oct 27th 2009 1:38PM
Yeah, the majority of Nintendo posts are done by JC but doing your job and being good at it are two different things. Like you, I don't like his style but as you said, that's an opinion. My real problem with him is that I'm constantly finding incorrect info or confusing statements in his posts. Seems like these problems could be solved with a quick revision and fact check but whatever. I think he sucks, but apparently not many other people notice the problems I've noticed or they just aren't bothered as much by them. Oh, well.....
The Alex @ Oct 27th 2009 3:09PM
Santo's, you are not alone. I find (and get annoyed) by his mistakes too. It's ashame, Joystiq is a quality blog site, but then you get the occasional writer who brings the sites quality and credibility down.
skjia @ Oct 26th 2009 4:16PM
sorry guys, i forgot they were in world. i played mario 3 more than world. thanks for the entertaining replies though. lol

This is Marvelous! Simply Marvelous! I am now SOLD on this game! Koopa Kids for the Win!!
Dracard @ Oct 27th 2009 1:58AM
Now if they could just show up in Galaxy 2 instead of just Bowser Jr.
Pookiewood @ Oct 27th 2009 10:33AM
That would be a dream!
