Good news for the people who were unfortunate enough to get the Wii Internet Channel between July 1, 2007 and September 1 of this year. Yes, you may have gotten taken for 5 bucks, but with today's Wii update, Nintendo of America is giving that money back to you in the form of a
free NES game from the Virtual Console. You'll see the message when you turn your Wii on, as with all updates.
Don't take too long pretending to face a tough decision, because this offer will expire at the end of the year. Just buy
River City Ransom and enjoy it! If you've already got
River City Ransom, we've heard good things about that "Castlevania" series.

I'm pretty jealous, I must say. Me being an early bird with my Wii, I got the internet channel for free, as a beta tester, I guess. I'd love 500 points to spend on a Nes game.
Given the choice, it has to be Kirby's Adventure. Nothing beats Kirby.
Louie @ Oct 21st 2009 12:35PM
There's a special menu option to "select a free NES game", it's not exactly 500 free points. I was kinda hoping it would be 500 points, so I could get some DLC for Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Or part of a SNES game for that matter...
Mics @ Oct 21st 2009 7:08PM
Really? Jealous that you got the Internet Channel for free when some others paid $5 for it? If you really want to feel part of that crowd, you can still give Nintendo $5 now, and they'll give you the same 500 points that they're giving the others.

i was thinking of going with kirby's dreamland
threefour @ Oct 21st 2009 12:15PM
oh, i guess it's kirby's adventure
threefour @ Oct 21st 2009 12:21PM
scratch that, i didnt realize mega man 2 was avalible
GewurztraminerX @ Oct 21st 2009 12:17PM
Any NES game, or just first party titles?
'cause that'd be a great opportunity to get a sweet deal on the 600 point TMNT game (it is still 600, right?). Though, with how punishingly difficult it is, maybe that's not such a deal after all...
Either way, I got the browser for free so it's just hypothetical.
Louie @ Oct 21st 2009 12:35PM
Any NES title "worth 500 points" Which seems to include 78/83 titles available for the NES VC. TMNT is not available. I didn't know there were any others not worth 500 points, wonder why the others aren't available.
Yutsud.oberin @ Oct 21st 2009 12:20PM
Kirby for sure.
Louie @ Oct 21st 2009 12:35PM
It seems only 78 of the 83 NES VC titles are available.
And I just know the day after I make my choice for a free game, they will find a way to license Battletoads from Rare/MS.
Louie @ Oct 21st 2009 12:51PM
Titles not available, the 4 imports, and TMNT. All cost 600 points.
threefour @ Oct 21st 2009 12:21PM
hmm, mario bros 2 doesnt sound so bad either
mbkeller @ Oct 21st 2009 12:53PM
If you've already picked up the Mario trilogy (Lost Levels isn't included in this deal), get Kirby Adventure. You will not be disappointed.
aang1818 @ Oct 21st 2009 1:18PM
I've got Ice Clembers, Super Mario Bros, and Lost Levels. They are all pretty good, but Lost Levels is no good if you are anyone who gets frustrated easy.
Crap it seems like it takes me 100 tries to get through any given world, I can't imagine beating this 8 times...
mechevar21 @ Oct 21st 2009 2:42PM
Very valuable post. Great...now I have to decide whether I want Mega Man 3 or Castlevania 3.
M.Garvey @ Oct 21st 2009 3:49PM
Oooohhhh! Metroid FTW!
[ArchiGamer] [Controlling you through a chip in your butt since 1999] @ Oct 21st 2009 5:41PM
Yes, now I can buy Super Mario RPG for free!!!
[ArchiGamer] [Controlling you through a chip in your butt since 1999] @ Oct 21st 2009 5:43PM
Wait, I still need an additional 300 points to get it. oh well, time to buy some extra points.
[ArchiGamer] [Controlling you through a chip in your butt since 1999] @ Oct 21st 2009 5:47PM
Actually nevermind, it only applies to titles worth 500 points. Final Fantasy here I come!
Also, I got to read the article first before I go on to the VC to buy something...
fco. @ Oct 21st 2009 5:54PM
It asks me to update the system before logging into the Wii Shop, and I'm scared to do so...
MK @ Oct 21st 2009 6:27PM
I guess this means if you GIFTED someone the browser, the GIFTER gets squat. I wonder if my girlfriend's Wii will be able to get a free NES game. If so, could she gift the NES game to ME, considering that we live together now and my Wii is the primary console?
Dilip @ Oct 23rd 2009 5:16PM
I have the same problem, fco. I'm scared of updating, but really want that free game. Idk if I should risk it.
