Sega and Red Entertainment's
Sakura Wars series has enjoyed great popularity in Japan (witness the
Sakura Wars Dreamcast system), but despite that success, it's never been localized. It seemed that non-importers would
never get to try the long-running strategy RPG series, until NIS America announced plans to localize
Sakura Wars V as
Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love on Wii and PS2.
It is the novelty of a
Sakura Wars game in America, along with the appeal of a mech game set in an alternate 1920s NYC, that sustained us through this trailer (after the break), despite the voice acting. Don't worry, the game will include both English and Japanese!

the lady in the video was actually paid to talk like that?
Alive @ Sep 17th 2009 2:53PM
Ugh... why do so many games have bad voice acting O_o
killdash9 @ Sep 17th 2009 3:00PM
To be honest, the only reason this grates on the ears is the accent, and the accent exists because the character selected to narrate is the cowgirl, and the cowgirl was probably selected because that's likely the one who narrated in the Japanese version of the promo. As for why the cowgirl sounds like this . . . she's the anime stereotype of an American cowgirl! Even in Japanese, they sound absurd. They speak Japanese strangely, or they use lots of Engrish. Except Rushuna Tendo (granted, she was not specifically an American cowgirl).

That has got to be the most atrociously painful, so-called, Texan accent. I have not, in a single day that I've lived here, heard anyone talk like that... ever!
It hurts... so... much...
Fudce @ Sep 17th 2009 5:11PM
I hate to tell you this, but the person narrating IS a texan.
killdash9 @ Sep 17th 2009 5:44PM
I've lived in Florida and Tennessee. There really are people who talk like that. Including the overzealous excitement, mind you.
JBGUY2K @ Sep 17th 2009 9:11PM
Haha, if she indeed is Texan, then I gotta get around and see the state. I seriously, have NEVER heard anyone talk like that, in my whole 14 years of living here.
Aqua Victorian @ Sep 18th 2009 11:51PM
Who said anything about it being a Texan accent...
Tim @ Sep 17th 2009 3:18PM
I'll buy this, solely to convince SEGA of America to bring the rest of the series themselves.
Josh @ Sep 17th 2009 4:26PM
This series seems like it got stuck in the 90s.
But since I really love Skies of Arcadia, and also love Valkyria Chronicles, am I obligated to buy this?
Tim Dunlap @ Sep 17th 2009 5:02PM
No, you are obligated to buy this because the Sakura Taisen series is awesome!!
Josh @ Sep 17th 2009 5:30PM
I'm not feeling it so far.
gatotsu911 @ Sep 17th 2009 5:07PM
Eh, I've heard worse Texan accents. Then again, I'm not even all that familiar with them - maybe it's really good and it just sounds cheesy to some of us because "reality is unrealistic". On the other hand, maybe every voice actor attempting to do a Southern accent should first be required to play Starcraft, the best instance of Southern drawl in a game that I'm aware of.
SoshiKitai @ Sep 17th 2009 6:25PM
Not a fan of Sakura Wars, but am a fan of good games.
And this looks like a good game.
TJF588 @ Sep 17th 2009 7:34PM
Cheesy, weak accent/dialect is cheesy and weak.
Also, LOL "dive into".
PyrosNine @ Sep 17th 2009 9:30PM
Oh yeah. Judy from Cowboy Bebop! That's what it made me think of.
It's a very good voice, it has a niche, and is usually used for funny roles and memorable characters!
skippy100 @ Sep 17th 2009 9:33PM
I wanted to stick hot pokers in my ears and eyes.
Do the Japanese see our culture as insane also?
There's cute and light and then there's watch some of this stuff and want to kill a puppy and smack a baby to counteract and even things out. Yeesh!
BenHo @ Sep 17th 2009 11:27PM
I LOVE TRAILERS THAT DON'T SHOW ANY GAMEPLAY!!!
Dan CiTi @ Sep 19th 2009 1:05AM
I imagine the voice acting in the game is nothing like that, it's NIS after all.
