The producer told NGamer that Phoenix's one attack -- shouting at his opponent -- would have been a fine size in Japanese ("igiari" can be written in four characters), but when translating that shout to the 10 characters in "Objection" ... well, we should let Niitsuma explain it: "When we localize, the balance of the game gets destroyed because the move becomes bigger. There'd be no way of avoiding it! We had to remove [Phoenix] for these reasons. In the future, it is one of our aims to get him in."
OK, upon re-reading, we're now 99 percent sure that he's joking. Still, it's funny, right? Read the interview for yourself here, or, better yet, just go buy the magazine.

Damn! Were Phoenix in the game, I would have bought it day one (and for the record, I have only played the 1st 3 cases of the 1st game so I ain't a hardcore fan), but it would have been a blast to play as him.

Why hasn't anyone pointed out "Objection" has 9 Letters? To get 10, they'd have to be including the "!".
I-gi-a-ri-! is 5 characters, not 4. (even in Kanji). So in localization, they could easily have done Ob-je-ct-io-n! to be 5 characters of attack.
It's clear they just hate us. D: If he was trying to be funny it failed.

This is nonsense, why would they scrap Phoenix just because of a localization problem when the game TvC was intended to be japan-exclusive in start, that's bullsheet
