Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey is a first-person RPG for DS

The game, which uses some demon art from Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor for some of its three hundred plus demons, follows explorers of a new demon-filled dimension that has opened up in the South Pole. Players wear upgradable "Demonica Suits" like the one above, which is kind of awesome.
The new game will be out in Japan on October 8.

I still need to buy the other Shin Megami game, but this announcement can only be good news. Being a DS owner is awesome.

I've only played Persona 3, but reading about the rest of the Shin Megami Tensei universe on various websites has gotten me interested in it.

I'm wondering if this is an actual SMT game or another game with the tag slapped on to garner sales like Devil Survivor.
Zerokku @ Jul 22nd 2009 2:23PM
Real SMT game. Only the 5th game in the series to get the label. No ones quite sure if it's actually SMT IV though.

I tried Devil Survivor, and I hated it.
To be specific, it's one of those games where you spend 20 minutes in a really long match, just to lose to the final opponent because you were supposed to grind -5- times instead of -4- times before every match. It's ridiculously tedious.
I was told I just didn't have the best Demons, but I bought every Demon possible and made every combination possible, and none of them worked out.

I somehow doubt you tried every combination, given that there are tens of thousands of party combinations with thousands more of unique combinations of racial skills. Grinding is entirely unnecessary in this game if you equip your character with logical spells and align your MC's attributes fittingly.
Anyway, can't wait to play this.

Interesting. Thank goodness for another SMT title!
Shoyz @ Jul 23rd 2009 3:20PM
Every combo available to me, which wasn't much. I only beat the 2nd or 3rd story fight.

Then you haven't actually truly experienced the game or SRPGs in general. Maybe SRPGs just aren't your thing, but don't diss an entire game because you seem to hate the genre; what you happened to mention is a JRPG staple (the 'grindgrindgrind' thing), and if you don't like the fact that you have to grind, then either more strategically plan your moves or play a game in another genre.
Shoyz @ Aug 26th 2009 7:34AM
The World Ends With You is one of my favorite games, and it practically screams JRPG.
My problem with the game is that the grind before every fight is never ending. If you take a game like Final Fantasy for example, you can grind if you want. On the otherhand, you can most likely go through the entire game just fighting the opponents you're dealt.
As for SRPG, possibly. I've never gotten very far in one. Though, I don't have the genre, and that's not why I don't like this game.
