Wii System Update 4.1 is now live
But it's not a particularly exciting one, we're afraid. Oh sure, it might play havoc with your homebrewing, but you're not going to see any differences in how the system works. In Japan, 4.1 fixed a bug in Wii Sports Resort, apparently, so we're betting it's the same case here.So go on, update. Or don't. Up to you. We just wanted to temper your excitement when you saw that telltale blue glow.

I pulled it down last night. It was a surprisingly quick update, so It was pretty small compared with the 4.0 update.

i passed on this one, they usually stop me from playing my burned games :(
Snake Robot Podium @ Jul 16th 2009 10:26AM
They're not even pretending anymore. Where's my random keyboard support for a channel I don't care about?
Taco @ Jul 16th 2009 10:36AM
Hopefully it fixed that error message that I get occasionally when trying to play a game. Something about save files being corrupt.
Metal_Link @ Jul 16th 2009 10:46AM
Um... ok.

Nintendo, next time you want to try and hide some updates, go back to doing it behind a change that benefits your consumers. Here's my suggestion:
Take that clock you added to the main menu and have it appear on the screen that pops up when hitting the home button during a game. I would love the option to be able to see the time when I hit the home button to pause.
Anybody else? Other ideas?

Apparently, the home menu is run from the disk, not the Wii. Two gamecubes duct-taped together and all that.
Basically, from what we know, they could have new home menus on future Wii games, but they can't update the console to change what it is now.
On a completely random note, it would be nice if future Wii games allowed you to save parts to SD card to speed up load times.

Also add messages to that home screen button menu. I don't know how many times that I have been playing a game and the blue light lights up. I really want to know who the message is from but I'm in the middle of a level. I quit the game and it is just nintendo telling me there is a new mario kart tournament.

Controlling the pointer on the main menu with the GameCube controller would be nice...

@ FEBA
how could that possibly work? The wii system menu is run off the WII not a DISK, thats why you have to UPDATE the wii from new games. Think about this, the games DO have updates on them, but they are installed to the wii... how else would the system load without a disk in the tray?

How about a feature where your clock syncs up to a global time server if you have a net connection? It's 2009. I shouldn't have to change my Wii clock twice a year because of Daylight Savings.
iofthestorm @ Jul 16th 2009 11:18PM
@mdg: The Wii doesn't really have an OS that runs in the background quite like you think. The Home Menu code is packaged with the SDK and is compiled in with each game. It's not part of the System Menu at all.
Feba @ Jul 17th 2009 12:21PM
mgd: Home menu. Not the system menu.
We're talking about the menu that pops up when you press the home button while playing games. Not the one that your Wii boots into automatically.

Was hoping for Nintendo Channel update.
The 1 feature I really want is Classic Controller (& maybe even GCN controller) support for ALL channels! I understand if it wouldn't work for some (maybe Mii), but I see no reason why it wouldn't work on the Nintendo Channel. You have for Wii Shop!
zonic505 @ Jul 16th 2009 11:13AM
"You have it work on the Wii Shop" is what I meant to type....
Cody @ Jul 16th 2009 11:18AM
"Was hoping for Nintendo Channel update."
That'll be next. Probably in a few weeks, a month tops.
Cody @ Jul 16th 2009 11:16AM
Maybe it was the fact that I woke up at 3 a.m. to take a piss and I was half asleep when I noticed the update and performed it, but
My Wii seemed to be running thru the Menus quicker after the update. Clicking on channels resulted in no lag, no hesitation. Even going in and out of channels with the little "Wii fade from gray to black" channel load screen was really quick.
Kvak @ Jul 16th 2009 11:36AM
Dont really need any wii update after the last one...

The bugfix wasn't exactly for Wii Sports Resort, since Wii games cannot be patched, it fixed the conditions under which Wii Sports Resort was launched. Remember that unskippable scene showing how to install Wii Motion Plus? You're only supposed to see that once, but people in Japan would end up having to sit through it again if they launched Wii Sports Resort after playing a Virtual Console game, or loading anything off the SD Slot.
That's what this fixes. Maybe some other stuff, i dunno

I was all excited to see the little blue light and was sad when all it only was an update. It did get me in the mood to play WarioLand : Shake It though.
Arikado @ Jul 18th 2009 10:19AM
This update doesn't even touch homebrew really that much more than 4.0 did.
