Capcom bringing Mega Man Battle Network remake to DS
Hold on, we know we've got a paragraph lying around here that will work with a minimum of editing. ... Ah, here we are, from March of 2008. We'll just put the new stuff in brackets, as we're a little busy for a whole new post.
Capcom has announced that [Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star] will be out for the DS in [fall, in Japan]. This action-RPG follow-up to [2005's Mega Man Battle Network 6 (Cybeast Gregar/Cybeast Falzar)] follows in [series traditions, remaking the first game in the series].
... There, that about covers it, right? We're sure this news is exciting to those of you who've found the hours in the day/willpower to tell Mega Man games apart anymore. Seriously, you're an inspiration to us all.

I just hope that Capcom would be using the net profit to make new VS games.

For someone like me, who's never really gotten in to the MegaMan games but thinks there might be a chance that some of them are interesting, could you please explain what exactly is the problem here?
E @ Jul 15th 2009 12:32PM
The problem is all the Mega Man Battle Network series games are essentially the same game. Also, the Mega Man Star Force games, which carry over the same Mega Man virus-busting storyline, suffer from a similar fate. Star Force is basically the same thing as Battle Network, and while each series is several sequels deep, there's no real difference between any of them...literally.
Sequels tend to have things like better graphics, bigger bosses, a better UI, or a considerable advancement to the previous plot in a storyline but Battle Network and Star Force don't, and they continue releasing more and more sequels of these games. They can be fun but there's no reason for all the sequels there are, and I've played Battle Network 5 DS and the new Star Force 3.

To put it in perspective, this particular series has only been around since 2001, and according to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mega_Man_games
they've already released 27 games (20 Battle Network + 7 Star Force).
Data @ Jul 15th 2009 1:51PM
Yes, but to be fair, 7 were Japan-exclusive, and all the others have to be divided by 2 because they were basically the same game, like Pokemon Red and Blue. Well, for the most part.
I actually got into Megaman first by playing Battle Network and 4, at that, so go figure. Still, I really think they should've stopped at 3.

Aside from different bosses/battlechips, most of the Battle Network games have some kind of new system that changes the way you customize your character or use chips. ie, permanently affixed styles that are based on your strategy, "souls" (same thing as styles) that boost a certain kind of chip but require you to spend that kind of chip first and only last a few turns, I personally thought the command missions of BN5 were a fun gimmick.
The core gameplay is mostly the same, strategy aside, but it's still more change than between original Megaman series games. In fact, every time a game came out past 3, there was a horde of people complaining that it was way TOO different (the only one that really pissed me off was BN4, when they finally had a "style" based around sword chips, but there was no way to choose it; and they expected completionists to actually play the same game 3 times because of their stupid randomized plot).

Its not that the series (currently the starforce series) is bad, but more that it tends to use the same formula and its not what fans want (i.e. Megaman X) People want more megaman X, less battle network/starforce. Also, the idea of the starforce games is good, but they just re-use the same idea and barely tweak it at all. In my opinion, play starforce 3 and if you do not like it, then just stop there. You do not need to play the rest and if the formula of card battling does not hook you immediately, then don't waste any more time. Its a love it or hate it kind of game.

why remake it? what are they going to do? make the battle gameplay like star force and update the music quality?
Shane @ Jul 15th 2009 1:07PM
Your crazy starforce is the worst thing that happened to megaman! everyone knows they should remake BN3 and it will all be fine. the games after that went downhill
Garp @ Jul 15th 2009 2:15PM
I actually really liked Network Transmission for the Gamecube. Shame that's not what's being remade for the DS. That might actually be interesting news.
BobTheElephant @ Jul 15th 2009 1:03PM
I really liked the battle network games, I played through 3,4, 5 and star force 1 but I must say it's just too much of the same. It's a real good idea and if you just played one of them it'd be great but it's just too similar.
atastysammich @ Jul 15th 2009 1:32PM
Hey, they can't all be Megaman 9, and I couldn't be happier for it.
Hukuzo @ Jul 15th 2009 1:51PM
You know, I really enjoy the Battle Network games, but when you've played one you've played them all. A remake is completely unnecessary. I'm usually all for remakes too.
Shoyz @ Jul 15th 2009 7:59PM
It seems sort of redundant to remake a GBA game for the DS. It's like remaking a Gamecube game for the Wii with the same controls.
NForever @ Jul 15th 2009 9:44PM
Yeah, or worse. It could be like playing a NES game on the wii or
something...
NForever @ Jul 15th 2009 10:01PM
Actually this article is wrong, what was announced was a cross over game of the battle network and the star force series. ...that's actually kinda cool if you're a fan of the series.
Curtis @ Jul 16th 2009 11:27AM
Damnit Capcom, just put out (classic) Megaman 10 already
Engerz @ Jul 16th 2009 12:50PM
The first one that came out on the GBA? Nice! my personal favorite was the first one. Can't wait.
benjamines @ Jul 16th 2009 1:56PM
Played all 6. Pretty fun. But I don't think they need remakes, especially since the Star Force series is still ongoing.
Alilatias @ Aug 30th 2009 4:41AM
Okie, I know I'm about a month and a half late on this...
...But hey, [censored] you, Joystik. I mean, seriously, it's pretty damned obvious that whoever wrote this article is incredibly biased against this series (and has a very high chance of being one of those fan dumb 'true Megaman fans' of some sort of crap) and has done little to no research on this game (and if whoever wrote this article did, he certainly failed to include everything else that makes it newsworthy within the article - then again, whoever wrote this is most likely one of those 'true fan' fantards.
This kind of unprofessional bias snarky crap is the reason why nobody takes sites such as IGN seriously anymore. Now I truly understand why Kotaku is considered to be far superior to Joystik (and not to mention why NeoGAF also currently bans all mentions of Joystick on their forum).
