Black Wii system comes in a black Wii box

The black Wii hardware launches in Japan on August 1. Amazon.co.jp's listing for the item features the box that it comes in, which is, naturally, similar to the existing Wii hardware packaging, but in black instead of white. Like the hardware itself and the controllers (particularly the Nunchuk) the change in color scheme makes the box look so much more interesting.

After the break, we've posted the original white box for comparison. Is this new system worth the double-dip now that it also includes a display-worthy box? Still no, but it sure is nice to look at on the internet. The only downside for this new color scheme is that it'll be even more prone to the "dust" jokes that console warriors like to throw around, since it will actually show dust.

I wish they had released a black system at launch. Black is a vastly preferrable color for home theater components. Oh well, I'll stick with my lame white one.

Back before the Wii's initial launch, weren't there several colors that it was expected to be available in? Colors such as green and purple?

Yeah. I'm pretty sure they had blue, silver, black, red... all those colors. And back when it was called the Revolution, I think it was mostly advertised in black. Might've just been in Nintendo Power, idk.

As a new Wii owner , yes I finally got one just about a week ago, I have been noticing how it stands out among my otherwise all black cased items in our "entertainment" system area. Even my old Xbox, which I'm now thinking it is time to retire, is black and blends in nicely. Ah well.....I waited long enough to get a Wii and would not have waited any longer just to get it in a black case. What will annoy me is if they stupidly decide to sell off the white cased ones at a discount OR discontinue the white accessories.

Yeah, the Wii really isn't worth defending.
There are seriously about 12 games worth buying (Zelda, Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Brawl, Metroid, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart and MAYBE a couple third-part games).
Other than that, we've got a bunch of bad racing games (Hot Wheels, Excite Truck), movie games (Kung Fu Panda), Lego Games (Batman, Indy, Star Wars [we got 3 of those]) and an endless supply of mini-game compilations (Carnival Games and its sequels, some game my little cousin owns, Raving Rabbids and its sequels, though the first one was probably the only good one).
Some can argue the Conduit, but I'm not even going to bother with that.
As for the WiiWare service, none of it is worthwhile, sans World of Goo. A very good majority of the VC games aren't good either, and the ones worth buying are probably ones people already owned on other systems. Heck, at least four of the ones I own I owned on the N64.
I used to support the Wii, but Nintendo's really been letting me down lately. The Wii has become nothing more than a gimmicky toy. It might have been respected back in 2006, but it's really nothing to be feared now. Sure, it's sales are incredible, but that's because everybody and their grandmas own 3.

I don't want to see games in HD.
I got a component cable for my Wii, 480p output, and everything is TOO defined. Pixel differences become much more apparent, and everything looks all jagged and uneven.

I'd be tempted to get this, and sell my old one, if there was actually some way to transfer all my goddamn saves (the "protected" ones) and downloaded content. We didn't have any of this bullshit back when we were still using memory cards. This, and digital distribution, is all a big scheme by the platform holders to kill any consumer freedom. >:(

Man, I remember back in 2006 when I learned Nintendo was only making a white Wii at launch, I said I was gonna wait until a black Wii came out so it would match my DS Lite.
It's nice seeing how long I would have waited. Kind of makes me wish I did since I didn't miss out on much...
