Dragon's Lair on NES might be the worst game ever
While we like to think that we've played a lot of NES games, we never experienced the console's version of Dragon's Lair. And we're thankful for that, as a Nintendorks video (available after the break) shows what could possibly be the worst game ever made ever. Not only is the gameplay an issue, but it's so tough that getting past the first screen is on par with scoring a womp rat bullseye in your T17! How do you make this game and not stop to question it halfway through?

Angry Video game Nerd's review of this game was hilarious. I can believe someone made this game.
natureboy46 @ Jun 24th 2009 3:56PM
You beat me to it. Hilarious to watch.
Raru @ Jun 24th 2009 3:58PM
Heres the link to the AVGN's Awesome Dragons Lair Review.
Cation::::Awesome cursing ahead!
Mazrael @ Jun 24th 2009 4:04PM
How did this game get through game testing..!?
even the Youtube video is having issues for me :D
I actually thought Heart of Darkness on PSone was the worse game ever.. I got to a screen halfway through, and could not get through it no matter what I tried :S
AmitZ @ Jun 24th 2009 4:17PM
@Mazrael
Whaaa????
Heart of Darkness is one of the best games ever made!
Mazrael @ Jun 24th 2009 6:01PM
We thinking of the same game?, AmitZ

That game is rediculous.. never before, or since have I wanted a mallet against my games console.. I remember having a guide for it, it only had instructions like, "run left, jumping over..".. I think someone wrote it from an easy mode..
Sabastian Chadwick McGirt @ Jun 25th 2009 3:33PM
I remember when the AVGN did a review of this game. He pretty much came to the same conclusion. WORST. GAME. EVER.
Autobot @ Jun 24th 2009 3:55PM
Even the cartridge sticker is laughable.
Go1denchi1d @ Jun 24th 2009 4:01PM
That's awesome lol. However if I was playing that game, I would of thrown my wii out the door waaay before I killed that dragon...
uncle jesse @ Jun 24th 2009 4:12PM
E.T. anyone?
Soulieth @ Jun 24th 2009 4:14PM
Me and a friend play this sometimes, it's a right laugh when you've had a few beers.
KaBob799 @ Jun 24th 2009 4:17PM
Really? I think I have it cause I bought like 40 games at once, but I never played it.
Garu @ Jun 24th 2009 4:20PM
I just sent this YouTube link to a friend of mine on Monday!! Are you reading my personal emails David???
Very funny!

Garu @ Jun 24th 2009 4:27PM
Wait... the one I sent was the Crappy Games: Dragon's Lair Review on YouTube that is posted by jedite1. It's very funny but non-stop cursing!! I thought this was what Raru was talking about.
The graphics are not bad for a NES though.

BTW, I really like that lamp you were looking at last Thursday.

I remember playing this when I was a kid. This game crushed my soul back then. I was so excited to see it after having played the arcade version for hours and hours on end. Thankfully I rented it rather than buying it. It deserves to be on a worst game ever list if only because of the raping of the name.
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jun 24th 2009 4:56PM
How could you all miss the Star Wars joke at the end? Is it because of the slight error? Its T-16 not T-17. The T-16 was an airspeeder back in the days of the Galactic Civil War. Luke had one but he wrecked it after performing a foolish stunt in Beggars Canyon. The T-17 doesn't really exist, since its only been mentioned in Jedi Knight II
ehaleen @ Jun 25th 2009 12:57PM
NONE OF THAT EXISTS BECAUSE ITS FROM STARWARS!!!!!!
you have now given up all your breeding privileges.
S. Tiger @ Jun 24th 2009 5:24PM
A game worse than ET for Atari!?
Greg2k @ Jun 24th 2009 5:41PM
It ties with Big Rigs.
ROb @ Jun 24th 2009 7:08PM
I actually remember being extremely disappointed that this wasn't like the arcade game, but then actually liking it a lot! I played for HOURS and hours because the whole game was like this first level here. It was crazy, but i remember liking it.
maybe i was a bit of a masochistic kid ...
Ninbrendo @ Jun 24th 2009 6:45PM
I rented this from the local mom-and-pop movie store back when it came out. Easily more frustrating than E.T. for the VCS, and far more disappointing due to my love for the arcade version. I vote "yes" for worst game ever, regardless of console.
I remember one guy who used to be able to play the arcade version with his back to the screen, using only audio cues! Knocked the smug out of me big time.
Onomah @ Jun 24th 2009 6:55PM
I once knew a guy who could beat megaman II without taking damage. I felt awe and pity in equal parts for him. Being able to play a game based on audio cues...That's just awe right there.
Onomah @ Jun 24th 2009 6:50PM
Why would somebody inflict this upon mankind? The mind boggles. This is like an arcade game designed to bankrupt you. Perhaps the designer was some sort of fell ogre who fed upon the frustrated sobbing of children.
Scuffles @ Jun 24th 2009 7:27PM
even the regular dragons lair was a horrible game ~.~ but still it has a port on like EVERY system and probably will continue to do so from here until the END OF TIME.
go figure ?
Scuffles @ Jun 24th 2009 7:29PM
Early disclaimer, I'm just not a fan of games that arbitrarily kill you if you make the wrong choice, these are the precursor to the quick time events in modern games that have been as much a plague as they have a boon.
Lisa @ Jun 24th 2009 9:27PM
I remember renting this game as a child. I cried when my mom wouldn't take me back that night to swap it.
J.K. @ Jun 24th 2009 10:12PM
Horrible game yes, worse game than it, yes too... Home Alone. Thanks THQ for some Total Horrible Quality and an even more wretched sequel.
Maxx the Slash @ Jun 25th 2009 3:06AM
I know most people refuse to cheat in games until they've beaten them, but I think with this game, I bet people would jump at the chance to use one here.
Meh @ Jun 25th 2009 3:33PM
Damn the laserdisc version was awesome. Buy the HD remaster, it's even better - especially the sequel.
Caleb @ Jun 25th 2009 6:33PM
heres how i beat that damn first screen.
1. Cut the chains to the bridge, let it fall.
2. dive into the moat head first.
After the game over screen.
3. remove controller from NES, strangle myself with it.
4. Moved onto my next life.
Dedlok @ Jun 26th 2009 6:26PM
The guy playing this game is the same guy who did this video. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6204903272262158881&ei=gEpFSt2DHZHgqQKwyfiJBg&q=super+mario+frustration
Deozaan @ Jun 26th 2009 7:06PM
Not sure if this works, but a seemingly obvious solution to the dragon at the beginning is to get behind it, then duck and throw knives.
That's what I would have tried as soon as I got behind it.
Emoroan @ Jun 27th 2009 12:47AM
Can't duck behind the dragon.
Jarlino @ Jun 27th 2009 1:08PM
Emoroan, what, why not? X_X
That's the solution I would take as well...
The second "level" looks mindbogglind hard though, with all the stuff suddenly appearing...
this game was made to have Gamers distrust everything at every given moment in life.
