Bowser Rogozhin: Death of a Ladies Man @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:27PM
It doesn't look that bad...then again, I've been playing DS games all day. I'm pretty sure Ridge Racer DS could give this game a run for its money. Good going, Codemasters. I'm sure McRae's family will be proud.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:29PM
It certainly does look dangerously close to a N64 game. People in the GAF thread were linking screens from early PS2 racers (not gran turismo) that looked better than this. Hell, even a dreamcast racer someone showed looked better than the screens to this.
I agree with the person who said something like "At this point there has to be a running joke among developers to see who can put the worst looking wii game out". Codemasters has taken the lead, ball's in your court Ubi/EA/Activision!
John @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:38PM
Hope I don't sound too rude or anything but didn't you say before that you were done bashing the wii and it's games or did I misinterpret what you said.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:43PM
I said I'm done trolling the wii. This isn't trolling, you can look for yourself and see how awful this game looks in both screens and motion. I'm never going to not make fun of games that clearly have 0 effort put into them.
Ferco @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:06PM
You've created a monster tmac.
BPMOmega [GT,Steam] @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:21PM
I dunno, I think Cruis'n still has this beat.
Cody @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:44PM
@ John
Don't believe it, it's a front attempted many times over by other posters as well.
@ the article
This isn't surprising. Do we really expect ANY game developed multi-platformed for all 3 systems to ever get good treatment on Wii? And I'm not talking about games like Ghostbusters where they take a distinct direction with the Wii build...
John @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:02PM
It looks pretty good in my screen unfortunately for me I don't have a N64
any more :(
Cody @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:48PM
Ah, the greatest system ever...
People talk about the Dreamcast being the greatest system; that's just a pity party because the format flopped.
It's kind of ironic the N64 had carts, because outside of that aspect of it, the N64 was so ground breaking in everyway possible it's not even funny. The birth of 3D gaming, the birth of console FPSs (Doom 64 still is one of my tops, and Turok 2? WOW) the birth of Analog, rumble, and even 4 MB extra RAM 3 years into the consoles lifecycle!!
NoughtSoClever @ Jun 23rd 2009 3:48PM
The Dreamcast was a couple years ahead of it's time. The graphics on a handful of games rival the Xbox (and do in fact look better than the Wii) even though the console was not as powerful. More importantly, there were plenty of fun game, considering how long it was out for. I still take the Dreamcast out every now and then for some 4 player Chu Chu Rocket action.
KaBob799 @ Jun 23rd 2009 5:10PM
The dreamcast is not some amazing technical wonder producing graphics rivaling the Wii, the gamecube was more powerful than it.
Hexen @ Jun 23rd 2009 5:59PM
The Dreamcast was a great innovative system, and it also had it's own motion controls which was wired but was very responsive.
Gemini Ace @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:04PM
So is this just the Wii version? A little clarification in the story would be nice.
David Hinkle @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:30PM
That's what the little Wii badge below the headline is for. :)
D_Average @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:45PM
Actually, when you compare it to other Wii racers, it doesn't look bad at all.
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jun 23rd 2009 3:02PM
I dont see why everyones bitching. What it lacks in polish now is easily made up for by the developer's (Sumo) attention to detail.
Its the little things that count.
Yi @ Jun 23rd 2009 3:30PM
i dont think it looks awfully bad at all. Is joystiq being sarcastic or what?
Foetoid @ Jun 23rd 2009 8:43PM
It actually looks very good and yes, Joystiq is being sarcastic.
Brian @ Jun 23rd 2009 4:46PM
It's looks don't blow me away, but I'm more disappointed there's no online play. That will keep me from buying it no matter how good it is. If I wanted to play a racer without online I could buy a used Cube game with probably better graphics. I want an online racer other than Mario Kart. Gamefly is looking better and better.
danrenfroe2016 @ Jun 23rd 2009 5:53PM
I think it could use better graphics... but it also has four player split screen... This is a must for racing on Wii!
I would take less graphics for four player split screen. I think it looks ok. Also, they need to keep the frame rate very high...
TendoMan @ Jun 23rd 2009 9:06PM
Reminds me of Top Gear Rally
Nook @ Jun 23rd 2009 9:10PM
is this built on the cruisin' engine?
Jesus (PSN: Luttdawg) @ Jun 23rd 2009 9:16PM
Give me Cruis'n USA or San Francisco Rush anyday over this rubbish.
Wow, I forgot how awesome Midway once were.
