Euro Wii owners: Super Smash Bros. available on Virtual Console tomorrow

Surprisingly, Nintendo isn't taking the opportunity to be lazy and make it a one-game week. Cocoto Platform Jumper will also be up on WiiWare, and both Asphalt 4 and Sudoku 150 will be on DSiWare. We thought we'd mention these here, because they will not get any attention at all this week due to Smash Bros.

I never cared for this entry till I got Melee and I was hooked from there. Sadly I played so much of that second game that I felt burnt out when Brawl came in.

God, I remember that strangely terrible character art. Good thing the in-game models didn't look like vaguely Olive Oyl-esque.

Oh hell when the f are we going to get it in the states then?

At least a few months. Nintendo hates us here in the US.
I hate it when people in the UK complain about how every game company hates them. They got the DSi earlier and they have almost TWICE the number of games on DSiWare. They got so many other games that will probably never be released in the United States, like Disaster: Day of Crisis. They got PlayTV on the PS3 (although more because they've got DVB there, don't they) and that new music video service, as well as IPTV on the 360.
And we got...uh....uhhhhhhhhhhh...

We still have Earthbound while they don't.
Fine, it's not on the VC. Nevertheless we still have it.

Martin Greenberg: a big fat fuck you to you and all Americans complaining about getting anything later than us Euros. WE never got Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Legend of Mana, Valkyrie Profile, ANY Final Fantasy before 7, ANY Dragon Quest before 8, Xenogears, Xenosaga, and the list continues on and on. And the games that we DID get, we have always gotten ridiculously late, often reaching up to a year later in case of Square games, for example.
I laugh in the face of any American who feels any jealousy towards us across the pond because we are finally starting to get some respect from game companies.

I still don't understand why people are clamoring for this game so much.
Don't get me wrong, I have wonderful memories of playing it, it's a fine game. But Melee and Brawl both have a lot more to offer, and I'd personally rather see more *different* games come out.
More games with plots (although with older games, that's mostly going to be RPGs), more games with unique gameplay, more games we haven't played before.

Because its the one that started it all
APHughes @ Jun 11th 2009 2:38PM
I understand what you mean but this game is still fun 10 years later and its simplistic enough to get people to pick up and play

The original was a day one purchase for me, went to my friends house and we played for 6 hours straight, the next day 3 of my friends went out and bought it. While Melee and Brawl offer more we still love and still play the original and its concentration on the combat not all the weapons and level hazards. We didnt care for Melee as we didnt like the fact that the A moves did next to no damage and didnt like the charge on the A moves that were added and they hosed some characters, while Brawl is alot better in almost all our complaints we had with Melee we still dont think it quite stacks up to the original. Nintendo needs to open its eyes to the possibility of using Wiiware like Xbox Live has done and release old games with new features like Online Play, Original Smash with online would be awesome!

You're largely right though I gotta say, there is some stuff in this title that there isn't in others, namely their challenges, which were good fun. Though at 1,000 points, you've gotta be sure it is really that much fun.
Plus, well, nostalgia.
GewurztraminerX @ Jun 11th 2009 3:18PM
I still say Nintendo missed the boat on this one. If they had released it on Brawl's first release date, before the news of "hey it's Sonic... oh but it's delayed", or just any time before Brawl's actual release, that would have been great.
But for me, with this game, 'better late than never' does not apply.

Smash Brothers for the Win...This is probably the first (and only) rerelease of a game that was released in Europe before America...
