Four-player Pokemon fighting on Japanese WiiWare June 16
The player controls a remote-controlled robot Pokémon, building strength by fighting Pokémon in the wild, in anticipation of a big tournament. Gameplay is real-time, like a Zelda or Ys-type action RPG. And, of course, four players can face off in the game's Battle Royale arena mode.
Melee! Pokémon Scramble will be out in Japan on June 16. No release dates have been announced outside of Japan, but Nintendo won't deprive the rest of the world of its biggest brand.

My apologies for that mutant of a URL.

Yes indeed

That looks kind of cool, I don't get the whole wind-up toy angle though.
Hopefully one of these years, before Nintendo has too many Pokemon, they'll put a team together and develop a 100% Pokemon Smash Bros. spin-off.
One can dream :(
Ultima @ Jun 6th 2009 2:25PM
Seconded. That'd be pretty awesome.
tkAshur @ Jun 6th 2009 9:52PM
Thirded. It would be the end all colleseum/stadium game.
Tsubasa @ Jun 6th 2009 2:16PM
This looks a lot like Digimon World 1, not that I'm complaining.
Russ W. @ Jun 6th 2009 2:37PM
This is the game I dreamed about when I was eleven. It would pretty sweet if you could import your own Pokemon team, but I doubt it.
Mr Khan @ Jun 6th 2009 2:52PM
Its a very unique direction for them to take, i'll grant.
Dopple Boppler @ Jun 6th 2009 2:56PM
Is there some reason that I'm unaware of as to why out of all the Pokemon, they chose to highlight Rattata so much in the beginning? He's never had a very prominent role in anything, but he's not quite so useless that it's funny like with Bidoof. Silly Japanese commercials.
S. Tiger @ Jun 6th 2009 5:00PM
Hey, Bidoof isn't THAT useless. You can...evolve it into Bibarel and have yourself an HM slave. Also it can STAB with those HMs.

A smash style game is what I always wanted pokemon to be. Well Smash mixed with an action rpg
ChromeAlchemist @ Jun 6th 2009 4:56PM
Bulbasaur or no deal.
@tomic @ Jun 6th 2009 5:32PM
...Bulbasaur is in that video.

Even for Wiiware the visuals look bleh. Pretty much N64 era.
It might still be fun, but it looks a bit repetitive to me.
Inferior_Design @ Jun 6th 2009 5:53PM
The art style sucks. Pokemon Snap STILL looks better than this garbage, and it's 10 years old.
Metayoshi @ Jun 6th 2009 6:37PM
They just took the graphics engine from My Pokemon Ranch and recycled it into this game. Aside from the graphics, this game looks pretty fun, though it looks like it's inspired by the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games.
Inferior_Design @ Jun 7th 2009 3:00AM
Which is totally lame.
Nintendo needs to quit wasting our time with lame Pokemon spin-offs that have no bearing on the main series.
Really, people need to quit buying all of this sh1t. Maybe then Nintendo will make the fully rendered 3D realtime MMO that we all want.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Jun 6th 2009 9:35PM
this looks pretty cool. i've always wanted a more action RPG style pokemon game in addition to the normal turn based games as well (and for them to be on a home console). so bad visuals be damned, this might get a buy from me, especially if i can transfer in my Pokemon from Pearl.
i'm still waiting on a Zelda style action RPG Pokemon game where i actually control the Pokemon in battle in real time (more like how the TV show used to portray the battles). this seems like a step in the right direction.
Atlantis1982 @ Jun 6th 2009 10:10PM
Another website described this as Pokemon meets SmashTV.
I want my Smash TV on VC/WiiWare. :(
GohanGVO @ Jun 6th 2009 10:29PM
$15, though? This better feature robust content.

I feel like this is the formula for Japanese video game commercials...

mmm, hmmm online action pokemon battles, right up my alley ,come to daddy!
huh @ Jun 7th 2009 8:00AM
The reason they are wind-up toys? Easy. Pokemon can't hurt each other, it is the next step in the IP
Dv8thwonder @ Jun 7th 2009 11:47PM
It was inevitable.
mordekhai @ Jun 7th 2009 2:54PM
This game looks awesome.
