At the reception desk at Nintendo's E3 booth, among stacks of Nintendo brand licensing catalogs (full of your favorite things with pictures of Nintendo stuff on it), two
Classic Controller Pros were displayed in cylindrical plastic cases. Nintendo didn't actually make any
announcements about a North American release for the upgraded controller, but then it didn't make any announcements about a bunch of
games that are coming out either.
We asked several reps at the Nintendo booth, and none knew if there was an actual release planned. There's nothing on the E3 press site either. The controllers were just ...
there. Those controllers are totally coming out, though. Why else would they be there?

If I remember correctly, weren't different color variations of the Wii ALSO behind glass cases once at an event?
Just because it's on display, doesn't mean it's something Nintendo will actually do
(or, in this case, should)

Frickin Ole' Nintendo up to its annoying age old strategy of oh wait that is just dumb advertising. Lets hope with all these amazing(yawn) announcement they have been dropping lately that another Eternal Darkness type release was simply passed over.
It sucks the Big N is going with this classic pro controller over forking over some real cash and sticking with something along the line of a GameCube type controller.
Stix Remix @ Jun 3rd 2009 12:07PM
You do realize that you can just buy a GameCube controller, right?
S. Tiger @ Jun 3rd 2009 1:16PM
And you can't play Super Mario World with a GameCube controller. Or do you have mutant hands?
DaPistol-Pat @ Jun 3rd 2009 12:10PM
Who remembers seeing the Camera for the GameCube it was even announced before that other Japanese company who thinks it is innovative copy an idea slap a new skin on it and call it the most original idea this century.

mr nimblewick @ Jun 3rd 2009 12:12PM
Nice to know you actually made your way over to the Nintendo booth. How about reporting on some of those games?
S. Tiger @ Jun 3rd 2009 1:18PM
Especially Monado: Beginning of the World. I can't find any information on it past a video. I want to know who developed this game!
mr nimblewick @ Jun 3rd 2009 2:41PM
It's developed by Monolith Soft. But yeah, I want to see more on that too.
Nicholas @ Jun 3rd 2009 12:43PM
Already have 4 Gamecube Wavebirds.
Jack Spicer @ Jun 3rd 2009 1:30PM
...
Playstation, is that you?
Edge @ Jun 3rd 2009 2:17PM
Ummm... no. This isn't "pro".
A Classic Controller "Pro" wouldn't still connect to the fraking Wiimote. It would work all by it's lonesome, but Nintendo want to continue to torture those of us without pockets evidently.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Jun 3rd 2009 2:44PM
Would be nice if this thing was Wireless
evilspoons @ Jun 3rd 2009 3:13PM
So it's the Classic Controller with grippy "wings"?
I don't really see the point of releasing this as a separate product; just replace the Classic Controller with this one. Heck, make the extra grip a detachable unit and you're done. (Third party plastic add-on bit, anyone?)
Erik @ Jun 3rd 2009 3:53PM
The cord is coming from the top of the remote rather than the awkward bottom spot on the current controllers. I agree with Edge though. Nintendo needs to make a controller that doesn't need to connect to the wii remote. It's not like you need to point something at the screen to select stuff. And more games using a controller like that would be nice. The wii remote sometimes just feels forced in a game.

Perhaps we are looking at the Platinum reward for Nintendo Club Members.

"Nintendo didn't actually make any announcements about a North American release for the upgraded controller, but then it didn't make any announcements about a bunch of games that are coming out either." -- JC Fletcher
Dead Space: Extraction, Metroid: Other M, The Conduit, Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles, Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, WarioWare: DIY, Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again, Golden Sun DS...these don't count as "announcements about a bunch of games that are coming out?"
Perhaps I misread your point in the article, JC...but...I believe those, amongst all the others, constitute a "bunch"...
OpnickC @ Jun 6th 2009 1:15PM
I think he meant that there are several games which we know are coming out that were not mentioned in the press conference, not that Nintendo didn't announce any games.
boon @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:58PM
I thought it was just an attachment. It would make sense to utilize that release button already present on the classic controller.
