Bplus brings faux-retro to WiiWare in Bit Boy

Bit Boy!! follows a character called "Kubi" on an adventure that spans console generations, starting at 2600-style "4-bit" and progressively increasing in graphical complexity toward a modern 128-bit look. No real details about the gameplay have been given, other than that it uses either d-pad controls or a virtual Wiimote joystick, and that it features co-op play. But the concept alone has our attention!

"4-bit"? Seriously? The Atari 2600 has a 6507, which is by all accounts an 8-bit CPU. "128-bit" is also wrong, since there are currently no consumer-level 128-bit CPUs. (The Dreamcast used a 32-bit SH4.)

Correct. However, the "bits" thing has been a common label used to describe each generation of consoles, despite how incorrect it is.
Take the TurboGrafx, for example. It has an 8-bit CPU, but it has more in common with Super NES and Sega Genesis than NES and Master System.

The TurboGrafx example is fine, but where does "4-bit" come into play anywhere in the 2600? The entire system is 8-bit. I'm pretty sure no consoles ever used 4-bit CPUs. (Previous standalone systems were usually hardwired logic without a CPU at all.)

Bah, screwed up when replying. (This was supposed to be a response to BPMOmega.)

If the game is fun, the inaccuracies of the bit stages won't matter.
Not many games actualy peak my interest. This hasn't happened since the release of Katamari Damashii.

Wii isn't 128-bit, and WiiWare will definitely not be able to handle graphics more advanced than Mario 64. But trolling and anachronistic amounts of bits aside, this is a sweet idea and I can't wait to get my hands on it to see if it does the concept justice.

Are you kidding? Plenty of Wiiware games look as good at least as PS2 games. They are stunted somewhat by lack of storage space so textures are sometimes repeated a lot but there is no difference between a WiiWare game and a Wii game on a DVD so I'm not sure what you mean by "WiiWare will definitely not be able to handle graphics more advanced than Mario 64"

Yeah, since when are games not accurate with real life?! ;)
