Super Mario Kart races onto Japan's Virtual Console next month
The lineup of Virtual Console games heading to Japan next month is fairly light. But we suspect that won't matter at all because it includes Super Mario Kart. Super Mario Kart plus any quantity of other games seems like a nice month! Oh, especially since it also includes Final Fantasy II, which, unfortunately, we don't expect to see on our own Virtual Console.Other games include another Famicom entry in the Jake Hunter series, adorable Wagyan Land and Mappy sequels from Namco, and the original arcade versions of Altered Beast (!) and Golden Axe (!!).
Famicom:
- Tantei Jinguuji Saburo: Toki no Sugiyuki Mama Ni
- Final Fantasy II
- Super Wagyan Land (out June 2)
- Super Mario Kart
- Altered Beast (out June 2)
- Golden Axe
- Hopping Mappy (out June 2)

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the franchise, but the first one is only good for nostalgia.
The mode 7 graphics were great in its day, but now all the levels are so flat and plain.
I really hate how the game is always split-screen with rear view camera or map. That isn't cool.
Multiplayer only being 2 players also keeps the fun limited and most of those multiplayer tracks are not that interesting.
For the time it was amazing, but it hasn't aged well at all.

Is this a sign of things to come? I sure hope so

Didn't Nintendo announce that the Final Fantasy games were coming to VC at GDC?

Based on what I've read so far, it will only be the ones which were originally released in America back in the day.
That would be:
Final Fantasy,
Final Fantasy IV (originally released as II in America)
and best of all...
Final Fantasy VI (originally released as III in America)

Honestly, while I like Mario Kart 64, I have more nostalgic memories of Super Mario Kart. I'll definitely pick that up, should they release it in North America.
Speaking of which...Reggie...get on that!

So torn on Super Mario Kart. Is it worth $8 to download? Probably. I don't have a Japanese systems so I don't have to make that desision yet.

We still haven't gotten Super Smash Bros from NOA's collectively lazy asses.

hey tempered reason it just means that you need to get some homebrew and get some wads and just get all these games for free like i do later

I'm most excited to hear about the arcade versions of Golden Axe and Altered Beast. I'm tired of playing crappy ports of arcade games that could easily be emulated in their original arcade glory on the Wii hardware.
