The 'control' in New Play Control Chibi Robo
The next title to get the New Play Control treatment from Nintendo is Chibi Robo, and in being overhauled for Wii, players can expect new point-and-click-based controls, Siliconera reports. Gone are the analog controls of the original GameCube title, as not only will you guide your robotic munchkin around now by pointing your Wiimote where you want him to go, but you will also be tasked with finishing some of Chibi's chores through motion-based gestures. And the shooting scenes from the original? They've been replaced with light gun-like segments, further taking advantage of the Wiimote's ability to point at things.
The game is set for release in Japan on June 11, and no North American release has been mentioned.

I'd be very surprised to see a North American Union release of this - not sure that it sold well. Then the DS game was Wal-Marts exclusive
'cmon honey, let's go to wal marts and get that bbq robo game for billy jr's birthday.'
My wife has both, she love them - seems it would drive me insane after a few hours...myself.

My favorite game of the last console generation. Came out of nowhere and was a complete joy to play, beginning to end.
I'll pick this remake up to show support, plus I think enough time has passed to warrant a replay, but I'm not sure how I'll like the control changes. It sounds... arbitrary...

That's IF it even comes out here.

I just realized I lost my GC copy of Chibi :( it was specifically one of the only GC games I hung on to because I never finished it

This was one of the greatest games of the last generation; I've never played anything else quite like it. I think it'll actually be less interesting with indirect control over Chibi, making it just like any other point and click adventure.
But I'll still get it if there's anything new to it besides the awkward controls.

I would consider rebuying this.
Funny thing is, point-and-click was how Chibi-Robo was originally designed to be (and back then, his "home" was shaped like a GameCube). Only later did it develop into the action/adventure title it became.

Man, why can't Nintendo just leave the original controls intact as a side option??? I'm willing to try this new method, but c'mon! There's got to be enough room on the disc to have both! Look at DK jungle beat, I'm sure the new controls are fun(probably a little easier) but the drums were fun to do at least once in a while. The major draw for me on these NPC games is the widescreen, but completely ditching the old controls is a little bit of a turn off. Again, don't get me wrong, the new controls look, entertaining. But I'd like the security that I can go back to the old way with a slick widescreen look.
LokeSTL @ May 15th 2009 10:51AM
Totally agree. I'm in it for the widescreen also. The waggle control is crammed down our throats. I hope that in the future devs decide to use the motion control as a possible tool to compliment their games playability. Overuse is what makes it so gimmicky.

Where the F is NPC Metroid Prime for US? They need to localize it and give it a release date for cripes sake, or at least announce that it will be localized.

Lets not forget Wind Waker.

Man, Chibi Robo was an under-rated game. Glad to see Joystiq increasingly citing Siliconera.. those guys have great articels, including this one on New Play Control Chibi Robo. A someone there points out, this new play style is actually more in line with the control method of the original concept of GCN's Chibi Robo and it's early builds.
Hopefully this will be like NPC Donkey Konga where the controls are still quite good, there's a little bit of added content, and more players are introduced to unique Nintendo/Skip title from a newer IP.
