Epicenter Studios has announced an initiative to assist real heroes through the sales of its game, Real Heroes: Firefighter. The studio says that it will donate a share of the proceeds to the Firefighter Cancer Support Network, a charity that aims to "provide timely assistance to all fire service members and their families in the event of cancer diagnosis," though Nathaniel McClure, CEO of Epicenter, says he also appreciates how the charity "aggressively promotes prevention and early detection." So, not only will you save virtual people if you decide to pick up the game, but you could be helping in the recovery of real people in need, too. It's like kind of like a Double Stuff Oreo of justice.Real Heroes: Firefighter is slated for release in June 2009.

That seems... kinda odd.
Wouldn't a better choice of charity be for firefighters that are injured... fighting fires?
Obviously cancer sucks, and I don't mean to belittle their work, but it seems like an odd choice.
Still, charity is good.

Fire Fighter in training here. It's true that an injured guy in work could charity but the god tier insurance you're provided with when you're on the job you pretty much don't need to worry about bills if you're injured.
But considering the amount of weird stuff you can possibly breathe in (especially during a chemical fire) catching cancer is a possibility. My great aunt died from a rare cancer she caught doing work for a laundromat way back in the 70's cause of the all the chemicals she was working with.

The Real Heroes: Firefighter will enthuse you with the interactive and creative possibilities and engross you with the unexpected moments of surprise. This game is a non-violent game and well suited for kids. Real Heroes also teaches kids all about fire safety and awareness. Definitely a great choice if you’re searching for the right game for your child.

As a firefighter/paramedic of 20 years in the Southern California area, I am excited to see this type of software finally released. Tired of my kids killing things all the time--great to see a game where kids and adults can actually protect property and save lives.
