Instead of a cheesy tournament they could of worked on bringing more characters to the game...

I don't think this tournament cut into any development time. For one, playing a couple matches would only take a few minutes out of their day. Second, the game has already gone gold by this point, so there's nothing left for the developers to do. I should think that they are allowed to have a bit of fun with the product they spent so much time developing.

I know, it just feels like Nintendo have put less effort in their games lately. How many characters are there in this game, 12 or something? That's not a lot.
