Earthbound auction ends at a sky-high price

The big cardboard box that Earthbound came in was never "factory sealed" in the traditional sense, so unlike most "sealed" games, it would be possible to (carefully) open and play this game and look through the player's guide without causing any physical damage. But we can guarantee that will not happen.

Evidence that this game need a VC rerelease. Don't worry about the lawyers, Nintendo... they won't bite you for referencing the Beatles.

Record company executives are widely known to have no souls. Some of them actually hate the sound of laughter.

"they won't bite you for referencing the Beatles."

NoughtSoClever @ May 5th 2009 1:03PM
Woah. I was just gonna post that.
tkAshur @ May 5th 2009 3:31PM
...i still have the box, game, and the guide...anyone think I can at least get a tenth of that?
Cesaria @ May 5th 2009 3:47PM
You know how much I'd pay for this game? The price of a re-released DS game containing all three games. Come on, Nintendo. Use some of your mountain of cash and throw us a bone.
Cesaria @ May 5th 2009 3:50PM
Okay, off topic, but why in the hell does it sometimes display my old avatar and my new Animal Collective one? It's been doing this for months. What can I do to rectify this?
Markez @ May 5th 2009 4:48PM
Nothing.

.. Or just play it on emulator
Seriously, who would spend THAT much money on this?
esposch @ May 6th 2009 2:16AM
A collector you dumbass. Otherwise they would have got an open one for $40.

I was walking through the electronic section at my local Walmart, past the swing out display cases(these clear shutter cabinets that pivot on two pins and contained actual games), past the SNES and Genesis controllers, AC adapters,AV Cables and the other accessories and I reached the end of the gaming section where the clearance shelf is located. I own a Super Gameboy and I know just big it's box is, big enough to include a player's guide from Nintendo.
But there on the clearance shelf marked down to $15.00 was this game in a similar box to the SuperGameboy's called Earthbound.
On blind faith and a gamble, I bought it knowing only
1.) it's a RPG and
2.) came in a cool box.........
........13 years later, I still have Earthbound, the guide, the scratch and sniff cards and the box. I do not regret buying it....
P.S: As I walked away from the clearance shelf, there two more copies of Earthbound sitting there waiting to be taken home or thrown out.

What a damned moron. It will never get him any form of profit I imagine...tool. I recently myself got a copy defacto free, no box and book, but hell that's not $1000. Technically it was $75, but the place I got it at loves used books and DVDs so I took in like 10 books and dvds(a mix) along with a budget PSP and DS game and I ended up getting it + Joe and Mac 1 and 2 for the SNES for nothing...even trade.
Now that's getting Earthbound without being a dumbass like this clown.

Nostalgia makes you stupid, apparently.
Josh @ May 6th 2009 1:07PM
Awesome.
The level of fandom for that game is huge.
I've never played it so I wouldn't know why! Haha.
J.K. @ May 6th 2009 8:13PM
A non-fanboy answer to that for someone who just appreciates it for what it is basically would be that it's a classic RPG style mixed with a very 1950s black and white B-alien takes over the world time movie plot going. The story mixes in a lot of neat music, eye tripping backgrounds in fights, cute gags that are still relevant or don't need to be, and it's just kind of cool being a pack of kids who discover much of their lives along the way to saving the world. The game just has a lot of charm to it and oozes from originality despite being anything but considering the style and source material but it just works.
