VC in Brief: Tower Toppler (C64)
We say: Tough, but unique; puzzle and platforming fans will likely enjoy it
This week, we have one new Virtual Console title to play with: Tower Toppler on the C64. It's an inventive title, and very unique when compared to the usual goodies found on the service, but it's also pretty tough. Progressing past the first tower alone was something I couldn't accomplish, so if you sign up, keep that in mind before you go trying to shatter my world record.

Ah Nebulus I remember it well.

I'll need to break out my C64 and pray to the diskette gods for salvation but i swear that that is playing faster than the original.
I also had this for my PC.
Fun game overall.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, HINKLE, MAKE THEM RELEASE SOMETHING WORTHWHILE, MAKE THEM RELEASE MORE THAN ONE FLIPPING TITLE A WEEK, AGGGGHHHHH DEAR LAWD WHY

If I had any say, I would get that point across. With less caps lock and more lead pipe. :)

I'd like to give this one a shot, but it seems... frustrating. :P

It's only frustrating until you get the hang of the game mechanics, once that clicks it's just a matter of remembering the route to the top. Even then it's difficulty verges on sadistic, but that was half the fun of games back then.

Looks like Wonderboy is starting to drive Hinkle mad.

Also known as Castelian or Kyoro-chan Land on the NES. Nice enough - indeed, it had a ZZAP!64 Gold Medal back in the day - but the UK's had Nebulus on the VC almost a year now.
Anyone else noticed that the VC games from the C64 are the same ones that appear on those connect-directly-to-a-TV joysticks?
How about some Thalamus games from the C64 instead of just Hewson, Epyx and stuff we've never heard of? Give us Sanxion, Delta, Que•Dex and Armalyte!

When it comes to Nintendo not releasing any worthwhile games, their not wanting to release good games should have a new verb. Ah, I know! When Nintendo/third parties "decide" to announce a game "to come out soon" and then not release it, the verb should be called "earthbounding". Looks like they've "earthbounded" the FF series as well. Gee, and Nintendo wonders why so many wii owners like myself are desparate enough to resort to piracy. What!? If Nintendo doesn't like my playing earthbound, Final Fantasy V,Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI or Brain Lord on the wii illegally, then they should do something about it! You know, like releasing it on the Virtual Console LIKE THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE WHEN THE WII WAS RELEASED IN 2006! *Whew* You get the picture, homebrew hackers do what Nintendon't want to do. Don't get me wrong, I like Nintendo and the wii (and many other Nintendo consoles) but let's be realistic; Nintendo will never release RPGs we SNES-era gamers will ever care about. I mean Commodore 64? Don't make me laugh.

Personally, I believe "to blueball" is the standard nomenclature. I can't wait for Sonic 3 & Knuckles on the Virtual Console. It's "coming out soon"!
