Compare The Conduit's graphics to other Wii FPS titles [update]

High Voltage dares you. This isn't some kind of silly kid's dare, though. No, this is a triple dog-dare, the coup de grace of all dares. And, after watching the video past the break, which compares The Conduit to the likes of other Wii FPS games such as Metroid Prime 3, Red Steel, and Call of Duty: World at War, we'd say High Voltage has certainly made its case. What do you all think?

I think they need to post a *real* HD version of the video before I can really tell anything.
jax sedrin @ Apr 29th 2009 4:10PM
Oh, my bad... the HD button wasn't working with the embedded video, but it plays in full HD if you go to the youtube page.
Anyways... looks good. I like.

I think metroid prime has more detail but conduit's colors are more vibrant is there a point to this! Shouldn't they show game play and features and online?why are they only concentrating on graphics that barely surpass metroid and wouldn't touch Mario Galaxy.
nhcdrybones5 @ Apr 29th 2009 4:40PM
I haven't seen them mention graphics really that much. Lately it's been on gameplay, features, online multiplayer, the ASE, and such.
I look at videos of these and I think the graphics are much better than even MP3 or SMG. The game uses a custom software engine that does graphics in a different way than other consoles. I thought that MP3 is a little blured compared to The Conduit pics. And SMG's graphics were crisp and textured in detail, but what is going on in The Conduit is more intense than the more cartoon graphics of SMG.

@nhcdrybones5
Yeah you're right about the graphics but where did you hear them talking about gameplay, features, online multiplayer.I must have missed the boat on that one because since day 1 it's been graphics only.
il_duce620 @ Apr 29th 2009 4:29PM
I'm agreeing with John on that one. MP3 is a fine looking game, and so is Mario Galaxy.
Regardless, The Conduit is looking good and I'll be happy to pick it up day one and support these guys and what they're trying to do. I _would_ like to see some videos of online play in action, though, apart from what we've already been shown (which isn't much...).

They didn't compare The Conduit to Onslaught!! =)
esposch @ May 1st 2009 7:50AM
'know, I read that =) as a sad face. You should use :). Or maybe :-). =þ (Ha! You can't do that one)

Sure I can! =þ

First off, anything is better then Far Cry Vengeance on the Wii. There are some Nintendo 64 titles that look better then parts of Far Cry Vengeance.
I think any on rails shooter can look better then Conduit in places, most of that is because on rails shooter games can control what you see thus allowing maximum detail and resolution, one reason why Resident Evil Darkside and Dead Space Extraction look near PS3 / 360 in places. Because they are controlling the detail level by controlling what you see. So I don't think it's a fair comparison.
Conduit is an impressive looking game, and I'll probably pick it up. But I am unsure if this game will sell well. There is a lot of heart, care and time put into this game that will I think make or break the 3rd party market on the Wii. Sure, titles like RE will always be successful on the Wii. But a lot of developers will be very skeptical if this game doesn't sell well, or at least be hesitant to put this much care and money into developing things like this.
DrgnAK @ Apr 29th 2009 5:20PM
The Conduit is one of the few (if any) games that touches the Wii's TEV unit (shaders), which allows for effects that the other two consoles currently enjoy. Of course it'll look better. It's such a shame that with the kind of texture compression that the TEV unit allows (just look at the textures on Geist) for, they look so bland in the Conduit screenies.
Developers have just been sloppy on the GameCube and Wii.

High Voltage actually released this?
Jeez, wtf... Why would you ever compare graphics like this? What's the point?
Highlar @ Apr 29th 2009 8:59PM
I think one of the things I like most about the Conduits graphic effects is the focus blur when changing ammo in a weapon. Its an effect that I personally don't think I've seen done before, although I admittedly have played only a few FPS games. I like how the background blurs out and draws your focus in on the weapon, then back out into the action.
The Conduit is looking really, really good. I also like the smoke effects when the grenades go off. It really looks like smoke, that something could be hiding in.

I dunno, guys, I'm really excited for the Conduit, but its graphics--even if they are better, which, I mean, they are--seem a lot more sparse and droll compared to the fantastic environments of games like Metroid Prime. Hopefully there's more going for this game than it seems it's going to be.
acidburnedhacker @ Apr 29th 2009 11:52PM
Still looks very last-gen. All of those games do.

Interesting the way they created this video. If you watch it closely, you'll notice how
they started off showing some bland Conduit screens vs the very good looking Metroid Prime 3. Then gradually increase the quality of the Conduit screens, while at the same time going the opposite direction with the various Wii FPS titles. They finish off showing the best stuff the Conduit has to offer vs the worst FPS graphics on the Wii.
I'd much rather see an extensive Conduit vs Metroid Prime 3 graphics comparison.
Either way, I'm still pretty excited about this game!
