Watch (and understand!) the Crystal Bearers intro
There's good reason to be excited over the upcoming Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers (wow, what a mouthful!). The production values of this upcoming adventure easily surpass anything we've seen from Square Enix on the Wii. Voice acting, cutscenes, great graphics, rocket launchers, and massive open-world gameplay -- this is the kind of stuff we've wanted to see on the Wii.
The game's intro has been released on the web, and GoNintendo discovered a subtitled version for us to enjoy and understand. Check it out after the break.

I watch too much anime - that I now recognize voices speaking entirely different languages from mine.

Oh, boy. I hope we get to see that rocket launcher again. A Final Fantasy game is incomplete without one.

Following this game since it's announcement.
The developers are the same people that made the original Crystal Chronicles, so I have faith in this being an amazing game.
OHHHH can't wait! >.

Wow, a Final Fantasy male lead who isn't a wimp?
I still have no faith in the gameplay (come on, SE, show us a boss fight or something. The whole "grab enemies and throw them" gimmick looks incredibly lame), but it is looking interesting.

Really, you found the leads of FFXII to be wimps? Vaan, an Ishmael-esque character was a refreshing change from "the chosen one" type leads, and the rest would be hard to argue. Basch is pretty much the definitive tough-guy avenger type, and Balthier is (perhaps a bit too literally) Han Solo. Even before that, I find FF protagonists to eschew the typical (and extremely painful to witness) JRPG mold exemplified by Tales of Whichever, Star Ocean, etc.
Feba @ Apr 28th 2009 5:12AM
No, FFXII had male side characters. Vaan, Basch, and Balthier were all players in the plot, but not the focus. It was clearly about Ashe's crusade; if there was a male lead it was Vayne. FFXII's story was really more a grand political thing than about specific people. It had great characters, but none of them really qualified as leads.

I guess Vaan is pretty much the virtual personification of the word "wimp". And if he was some kind of "chosen one", at least he would have something to do in the story...
Moptimus Slime (Ziggy played Guitar Hero, but not Smash Hits) @ Apr 28th 2009 4:45PM
wait, are you calling THE Squall Leonhart a wimp?
Josh @ Apr 28th 2009 8:39AM
DO WANT
(and also do want Japanese dialogue with accurate subtitles in the North American release)
Andy G @ Apr 29th 2009 9:30AM
Oh crap there goes my "sell my wii" plan.
@tomic @ Apr 28th 2009 3:30PM
Awesome
I wish I could get a subtitled version of the last trailer though (the one that came with Echoes of Time).
