Wii Music introduced into D.C. school's curriculum

FOX News 5 D.C. reports H.D. Cooke Elementary school isn't using the software to replace the music curriculum but to further pique the students interest in music. The Wii Music injection is, in part, a response to a mandate by D.C. School Chancellor Michelle Rhee for every school to have a music teacher on staff. H.D. Cooke is the first school to use such a program; however, the program is planned to spread to 50 schools across the United States.
The supplemental usage of Wii Music is a good example of engaging kids with popular tech from their generation; however, it will give them the false hope that playing a trombone is as simple as waving your hands around like a crazy person.

yes, playing invisible instruments are sooooooooooo fun...seriously, just let them play guitar hero or rock band. They could play the drums.

Yes totally, just like Guitar Hero gives people false hope that playing guitar is as simple as pressing colored plastic buttons as colors roll down your screen.

SERIOUSLY? REALLY? REALLY? Is that REALLY what they want to describe him as? Why not just put "Nintendo of America" under his name? This is why media like this is failing rapidly.

Make fun of it all you want, but if it successfully gets children interesting in music and possibly make them want to play a real instrument, then good on them and the teachers.

My elementary school music program was less involved than this. The only time I played an actual instrument was when we were issued recorders in 5th grade.

Wii Music being used practically, thankfully.
Half of music is having the passion, and knowing how to make it. Hopefully Wii music will encourage some people to pick up a real instrument if it interests them.

Actually my mom has taught piano for 25 years and is thinking about using Wii Music with her younger students. It teaches things like pitch, melody, and rhythm quite well.
