Cave Story dev: Nintendo opens Wii to Flash development

"This should open up the Wii to a lot of web developers who already can do killer Flash games," Rodriguez said. You may think of this as enabling more quick shovelware, but we think of it as enabling Dolphin Olympics 2.
In other news, The Escapist has posted an interview with Rodriguez and Cave Story creator Pixel that provides some insight into the kind of DLC planned for Cave Story. Rodriguez said that the structure is being designed to allow "all sorts of fun stuff like Boss Rush Mode or other fan-requested modes."

So I guess Nintendo WANTS shitty games on WiiWare?
WEll, hey...even *I* can make games, now!
Papytendo @ Mar 13th 2009 9:48AM
GREAT! Now all I have to do is pay $600 for Flash!
Wait, that isn't very great.........

So they won't put Flash 9 on the web browser, but they'll let developers sell Flash games through Wii Ware. This sounds sufficiently crappy.

If Nintendo can fully support flash now, perhaps Opera can too. We know there's an upgrade for the browser in the works.
EXTREME Seph @ Mar 13th 2009 11:11AM
Yay! Flash...wait, it's not on the browser.
I don't even have the browser... 8[

I played a good flash game once.
Pity the graphics were still shit compared to what I'd expect out of even a console download service.
If a company can't even take the time to port from *flash*, does Nintendo really want them developing?

All your comments are ridiculous.
The post by the Nicalis guy has been edited and the statement removed. This means that either he was wrong, or the real thing isn't like this, or that he couldn't talk about it yet. Or all of there ones.
For starters, no one ever mentioned what version of Flash, no one ever said it will not go on the browser at all. And more so, they could develop a Flash reader version that is optimized for the Wii, enabling the power of Flash like it's on the computers. And that's a lot.
Flash is also going to embrace 3d in the near future, and that is a lot too. And there's some very GOOD Flash games out on the internet, so stop being stupid. Please.
And let's wait for some more info, at least. All of us, me too.

Flash has embraced 3D. I have a FPS tech demo made entirely with Flash I found somewhere. It's like 8MB or so. The graphics reminded me of the original Unreal Tournament.
But knowing Nintendo, they could screw up Flash just like they did with the DS web browser.

I feel just the same as Strong Bad in that pic.

What about "Fancy Pants Adventures?" I would love to see an all-out edition of it on WiiWare! The game itself has better GAMEPLAY and is more FUN than most games that cost significant amounts of money to purchase. Besides that, the graphics aren't half bad!

very interesting move from nitendo. They actually got lots of market shares capture for time-killing games by the iphone open development platform:
