Hudson has launched an online space for its upcoming WiiWare FPS, Onslaught. Courtesy of the site, we've got a bunch of new screens to drool over. If anything, we'd say they emit a Starship Troopers vibe ... which is totally a good thing. After checking out these screens, you can bet we can't wait to shoot our share of space bugs. How about you all?

Hmmm, they just decide to release a quickie on wii ware so they will have people threatening to shoot them instead of blowing them up, or what? This is the bomberman dev right?
David Hinkle @ Feb 5th 2009 1:29PM
One and the same.
JC Fletcher @ Feb 5th 2009 1:33PM
I get a sort of "arcade/Dreamcast" feel from this. It looks totally great.
BigD145 @ Feb 5th 2009 1:43PM
It's a rail shooter without rails, but still linear. Boring.
Russ @ Feb 5th 2009 1:50PM
I wonder how the controls will be. Looks like a FPS version of Earth Defense Force 2017.
SoshiKitai @ Feb 5th 2009 6:03PM
Nah, EDF was totally about the MASSIVE NUMBER OF ENEMIES.
...don't think this'll be like it.
And I think these insects could take more than 3-5 shots.
Also, there's no giant robots or flying robots.
...or Godzillas...
...or Godzillas with giant laser cannons for arms...
EDF was ****ing awesome. XD
Russ @ Feb 5th 2009 6:09PM
EDF was totally and completely awesome. I'd love a sequel to that game with more of the same. Different types of bugs (scorpions, praying mantis, ladybugs - jk) and for the different types of weapons to just look different from each other.
Alex @ Feb 5th 2009 1:54PM
Doesn't look too bad, especially for a Wii Ware game, won't pick it up, because I prefer my chevios and voice chat, but it looks quite nice.
JoeTheBlow @ Feb 5th 2009 2:38PM
Are you all blinded by lack of Wii-FPS? It looks like a friggin PS1 game!
Sisyphus @ Feb 5th 2009 2:46PM
And I think we all know how poorly those turned out. Not a fun one in the bunch.
Jerk Face @ Feb 5th 2009 3:23PM
You damned fanboys - Joe's totally right. It looks worse than Perfect fucking Dark for N64!
You people are the reason that Nintendo and all these 3rd party developers can get away with this stuff.
Jonah @ Feb 5th 2009 3:49PM
Jerk Face, fanboy-ism goes in both directions. Just as there's [Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft] fanboys, there's anti-[Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft] fanboys like yourself. Blindly championing a console is no worse than blindly flaming it.
Username "Jerk Face"? At least you're honest.
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Ryan Scott Defense Force, Ultrastiq Revolutionary) @ Feb 5th 2009 4:32PM
Really? Because my copy of Metal Gear Solid (For the PS1) says that this game looks a lot better
Xta Large (Formerly Fatass) @ Feb 5th 2009 4:42PM
lol, are you two stupid or something?
It's a Wii FPS for WiiWare, meaning you weren't gonna have OMG GRAFIX to begin with and since it has to fit within the constraints of the Wii's storage capabilities, well, this is about the best you can have.
Nobody is trying to pass these graphics off as 'amazing'.
bug frawg @ Feb 5th 2009 4:43PM
Geez, it's not like anyone said onslaught would be the best thing ever. >_>
Atlantis1982 @ Feb 5th 2009 4:44PM
Good to know people are mistaking this for a Wii title instead of a WiiWare title that is even more limiting with specs. For a WiiWare game, it's NOT THAT BAD.
BlaqueBeird @ Feb 5th 2009 7:06PM
Surely there aren't still people who are chanting that tired old "Graphics = Good Game" mantra. I mean seriously? Didn't we get over that already? Cus if that's still what you think, you're the wrong kind of gamer.
DBuck_Eye @ Feb 5th 2009 3:16PM
"If anything, we'd say they emit a Starship Troopers vibe ... which is totally a good thing."
Oh right, because the last Starship Troopers game was so awesome. Regardless, here's hoping for the best.
juangrande386 @ Feb 5th 2009 3:34PM
how come every FPS that comes out has to be hyped to the max as the next greatest shooter? im not talking about this game but shooters in general. it seems fanboys need to start bragging about their new FPS everytime one is announced.
Russ Carroll @ Feb 5th 2009 3:50PM
4-player online co-op.
Words that always make me happy.
motang @ Feb 5th 2009 4:23PM
Interesting...do like the co-op part!
SoshiKitai @ Feb 5th 2009 5:52PM
Wow... I'm actually interested in this. :)
As long as I can tell what's what, the graphics are great enough! ...unlike the first 2-3 stages of BWii2 @_@ ...
:D As long as I can tell what's what + fun + controls don't murder the player = purchase from me!
Shadsy @ Feb 5th 2009 6:16PM
This looks terrific. Who cares if it looks like a PS1 game, some of my favorite games look like that.
I don't even have a Wii, but this looks like it'd be right up my alley for some reason.
Grendel Pr1me @ Feb 6th 2009 12:17AM
Good to see Sark's ship Command Prompt getting some work as a shoulder mounted watchamacallit in this global economic crisis.
thesoiden @ Feb 6th 2009 12:27AM
It may look like a PS1 game, but what do you expect for a WiiWare game?
I wonder how many blocks this game will need.
Paul @ Feb 6th 2009 5:24AM
Hudson are making some terrific games for wiiware, so this will probably be good.
As for graphics who really cares. Nintendo have always been about gameplay. I remember the original game outsold gamegear, lynx and a few other technically better machines. I put the argument that true gamers play nintendo not the machineheads who love sony and xbox.
bug frawg @ Feb 6th 2009 11:06AM
I'm so tired of all this 'you're not a true gamer if you play console X'. Halo, littlebigplant and wii sports are all games. If you play games (even if they're freeware or open source) you are a gamer.
Paul @ Feb 7th 2009 7:53AM
No, your right it should always about the game. All I meant was it should always be about the game play. I used the gameboy as an example. Another example being chop till you drop. Everyone is slating it, saying it looks rubbish and relating this to the graphics and lack of zombies, but in reality you should wait until you read a conclusive review and until you play the game as you may be surprised. So onslaught will hopefully play brilliantly and start the myth of the "hardcore gamer" on wiiware. At the end of the day a hardcore gamer is someone who loves to play games a lot.
Jato Jay @ Feb 9th 2009 2:30PM
The screen inside the mech with the two gatling guns.. Lost Planet much? it even has the large 'score' numbering instead of T-Eng. (Albeit on the wrong side of the screen because I know someone will correct me about this)
