February's VC releases in Japan: Tactics Ogre and more
Nintendo has released the list of Virtual Console games planned for release in Japan next month, including eleven games overall. The biggest news is probably Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, which was released in North America on the PlayStation, but will be released on the VC in its original Super Famicom form. If the PlayStation release were to come out on VC, that would definitely be news. In any case, don't look for it outside Japan any time soon: as Siliconera points out, Atlus's English translation was only used for the PlayStation version, and Square Enix isn't going to license that work and recode the game to put it in. It's rather miraculous that they've deigned to dump one of their ROMs on the service as it is.Other items of interest include the Alex Kidd sequel The Lost Stars, which contains one of the most ridiculous digitized screams in history, and the return of the SuperGrafx Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts! Will it actually come out this time? And we must mention Wallaby!! which is a game about rabbits betting on kangaroo races.

Nintendo should really really make all Virtual Console titles available to all regions, and just put big warnings up that say "THIS GAME IS ONLY IN JAPANESE" or something like that, or have a way to easily filter in or filter out games in languages other than your region's native language.
Just, somehow, I really want to play Japanese Virtual Console games.

There is a way to play Japanese VC titles. It involves a hack of the twilight variety. But then you will become a pirate, and piracy is wrong, even if you're pirating a game you can't buy with money anyway.

Well that's the thing. Right now if I want to play an old Japanese game, if I really really want it I'll buy the cartridge, but usually I just emulate it on my PC.
I'm saying to Nintendo, hey, I'd like to be able to buy these games, so make them available! Seriously, it costs virtually nothing to just upload the ROM to the Shop Channel, I'm sure.

Why doesn't this post show up under the Wii feed?

Lasersanchez is right, the only way to play this is via the twilight hack and/or Homebrew Channel via a Wad Manager. What that does is it makes one game (in this case Tactics Ogre) appear as a legit channel (i.e. make the VC game look like a legit one, with the Super Mario World channel logo) in the wii menu. The problem with that is, not only is it a question of legality, but when you create the .wad file and the banner (the Super Mario World logo), if it's the wrong dimension/size, your wii won't boot up properly and will be bricked; that happens since the wii's like "what the crap happened!? I don't know what that banner is!" The quickest way to fix that is with the Savemii device they have floating on the net. If you're wanting to play games that badly, get an Snes emulator; doing that is infinitely safer and easier to do anyway, but doesn't make it any less illegal.
