Upcoming game ditching Friend Codes?
We imagine going against Nintendo is a bit like going against the mob. Don't talk out against Friend Codes and you won't find your house burned down. You know, that kind of thing. And, if the latest IGN Nintendo Voice Chat Podcast is to be believed, a "major" upcoming game will be doing away with Nintendo's antiquated system.
So, which game is it? Well, speculation first moved to The Conduit, but Joystiq confirmed with inside sources that it would indeed utilize Friend Codes. Which upcoming online-compatible major game could it be? Well, we're not sure, so toss us your guesses.

Damn my feeble brain, other than The Conduit I can't think of any major games that are online compatible. Could it be a brand new game we don't know about yet? I hope so.
wiilover @ Jan 18th 2009 10:16PM
Same here. The only major games I have on my mind at the moment are madworld and the conduit. I was hoping the conduit would not have friends codes because from the looks of it that seems to be the only thing that is negative about the game
igorponweed @ Jan 14th 2009 10:25AM
It's from IGN. It's gonna be Kid Icarus. Lol.
David Hinkle @ Jan 14th 2009 10:57AM
oh snap!
Phil @ Jan 14th 2009 10:10AM
My guess would be "none of them." Nintendo is pretty deadset on this idiotic system.
DaIllest @ Jan 14th 2009 10:12AM
I'm guessing Monster Hunter Tri.
m-p{3} @ Jan 14th 2009 10:34AM
Thank god if this is true.
Friend Codes could be less of a pain in the butt if there was only ONE global friend code that apply to all games.
Melao @ Jan 14th 2009 10:50AM
You are completely right.
Why the hell every game has a friend code ? It would be better to have a friend code for each Mii at least.
Highlar @ Jan 14th 2009 11:06AM
I agree with you, DaIllest. I think its going to be Monster Hunter 3. Also though its because that's the only other "big" Wii game I can think of off the top of my head that's has online support (after The Conduit...*sobs at friend codes and "voice chat").
JD @ Jan 14th 2009 11:25AM
You guys are all wrong! Its totally going to be Halo 3 for the wii : p. Master chief with the waggle is going to be so great...
Sisyphus @ Jan 14th 2009 11:40AM
Bah, if I want a generic FPS, I'll just play one on my computer.
bukizzle715 @ Jan 14th 2009 11:43AM
God I hope not. If Halo comes to Nintendo I'm selling my Wii for crack money.
esposch @ Jan 14th 2009 4:11PM
This is sad. He was obviously joking (hence the :P) and you guys downrate him and reply...
JD @ Jan 14th 2009 6:13PM
Thanks esposch for being the only one who replied to my comment who wasn't a moron. I was obviously joking. Everyone and their mom knows halo will never come to the wii. It tends to be a joke in the gaming community of idiots asking gaming shops "when will halo come out on the wii?" Obviously some people take themselves a little too seriously to see a joke when it smacks them in their faces.
samfish @ Jan 14th 2009 11:53AM
It's Monster Hunter. They already said it would have no Friend Codes. It's not like they said it was a game we don't know about yet or anything.
It's not like IGN hasn't pulled this crap before, talking about something everyone knows, but being all mysterious about it.
Lanmanna @ Jan 14th 2009 12:03PM
TMNT or Monster Hunter Tri
What else could it be?
soviet chick @ Jan 14th 2009 12:09PM
ONE game.
I welcome the change, but if it's just another system that isn't universal across all games, it'll just be another - albeit, better - id to add to a long list of game independent ids.
Demotruk @ Jan 14th 2009 12:09PM
Have any games already done this? Did MoH:H2 have friend codes?
il_duce620 @ Jan 14th 2009 3:24PM
It didn't have Friend Codes, no...you used EA's proprietary service for it. But, you did have to add people by their EA name if you wanted to hook up with them - if I remember correctly, you couldn't add people that you just played in a random match with... (could be wrong on that)
megapenguinx @ Jan 14th 2009 12:11PM
"Major game" to the media is something like carnival games 2.
We need more frequent non mini game releases
justin @ Jan 14th 2009 12:33PM
My guess is Punch-Out. Boxing online, it is really the perfect way to get people playing together.
dswill79 @ Jan 14th 2009 12:53PM
I agree! There's little time to offend the "younger, more impressionable" audience while you're pummeling the hell out of one another 3 minutes at a time... :)
abandonedgarbage @ Jan 14th 2009 1:38PM
I say Mario Party 9!! WOOO!! You will be able to play online! jk. I don't know.
TheOverlord#2(Wii-Fi: ACCF, MoHH2,MKWii,SSBB) @ Jan 14th 2009 2:40PM
Maybe a EA-published game. Medal of Honor Heroes 2 uses names instead of friend codes.
intro94 @ Jan 14th 2009 3:56PM
EA`s FIFA 09 has a system where you can add random people as friends as you met them, so its pretty much FC independant as well.In other words is pretty easy to make non dependant fcs games.
Apache15 @ Jan 14th 2009 4:58PM
I'm actually kind of disappointed that it's not The Conduit.
TMNT could be cool though.
Dustin @ Jan 14th 2009 5:08PM
Madworld?
wutdaheckman @ Jan 14th 2009 6:07PM
Diddy Kong Racing 2!!
Onion Knight @ Jan 15th 2009 2:46AM
I hope other companies follow suit until Nintendo changes. Friend-Codes are too much of a hassle for me to even bother with them no matter what game they are for.
wiiluver135 @ Jan 15th 2009 6:06AM
What can be more major than The Conduit?!?!, certainly not S&tBK, or any other game that's being released.
It's The Conduit, and if it's not then this game will be less fun than it was hyped up to be. If it's something else, well good for them...
