Patent shows Wiimote was originally a GameCube peripheral
Some new images and details on Nintendo's patent for the Wiimote have surfaced on the net and they show that the original idea was planned for the GameCube. The Wiimote was to attach to the console via an adapter, much like the WaveBird's. But, as you all know, the GameCube ended up going the way of the dodo, and so the Wii was born. The image to the right shows Mario playing tennis, which is where Nintendo originally got the idea for Wii Sports, we assume, but there's more. Past the break, you can see more diagrams showing how the Wiimote would work with the GameCube, if you're into that kind of thing.

This is what nintendo said from the start... but its good to see patents I guess. Patents are always fun, in a geeky kinda way.

I don't mean to be snide here but...Slow news day? Seems like there has been a sudden spike in the reportage of Vigyo Game Patents, you know? It's pretty neat though no mistake, but it isn't really relevant.

Well, I, for one, never knew this, and thus find it to be very interesting information to read about. So there.

Actually, I already knew that it was originally for Gamecube- it actually went through a lot of changes, such as Zelda Twilight Princess was at one point going to be a Gamecube title with Wiimote support if you do it on the Wii, but not on the Gamecube.

And round and round we go...
The other day, when you posted that "Peripherals from the olden days" link, you attached this very same gallery to it..
Other people looked at that gallery, and noticed the Gamecube-Wii image.
They went "Ooooh... Gamecube, but Wiimote!?!" and started posting it as if it was news, because they couldn't actually be bothered to follow the link to that silly rubbish "1 image - 1 bit of text - 30 pages" website.
The originating image is YOURS.
This "News" is old, and it's only being picked up because of a post that originated here!!!
Keep up, guys!
