Gameloft and Mattel team up to bring Uno to WiiWare
Why not, right? That's what Gameloft is saying, as they're set to bring the popular Mattel card game to WiiWare. Sadly, we've got no date to go on as of right now, but it can't take too long to pump this out now, can it? Also, the press release mentions that this is merely the first collaboration between Mattel and Gameloft, so there's a chance we could see other Mattel licenses make their way to Wii. A WiiWare version of KerPlunk? That's what we're talking about!

D: the only way these can be fun is when you can flick the cards at each other and somehow associate them with alcohol, as a kid we would crack out the uno on stormy nights at the caravan park or on the yacht but if we had a wii we wouldn't have bothered. hehe >.> pessimist

I'd heard Uno's popular on XBox live. Perhas if this has online as well, it could be a fun diversion.

It'd have to be online to work properly cuz locally ud be seeing everyone's cards.

Well, it's on DSiWare.

If it's anything like the Xbox Live Arcade version, it'll be worth the purchase.

Why do they port board games to consoles? Isn't it better with real cards? The only boardgame that benefits from a videogame version is risk (which was ported to a Warcraft 3 map), because it is both realtime and turn based at the same time.
Sisyphus @ Jan 10th 2009 3:52AM
The only valid reason to port board games to a console would be to play online with other people. Can't always find someone in real life that wants to play a board game, but you may have better luck online.

Another reason for online card/board games is to facilitate set up/tear down time, and to automate fiddlyness and scoring.
