DS Daily: Multi-awesome
The DS has a lot of great multiplayer games, even if Nintendo Wi-Fi isn't always on the ball (and even if too many games have only local multiplayer). Still, with the option of multiplayer added into the mix for so many already-great games, it's hard to complain. What's your favorite DS multiplayer game lately, and your all-time favorite? What is it about these games that keeps you turning the handheld on?

I think Meteos is the best multiplayer game, between that, and Tetris it is hard to find a better game.

I'm a sucker for puzzlers like Meteos and Puyo Pop Fever. Mario Kart is always good fun too, get a few people in a room and listen to the screams of "$%#!ing BLUE SHELLS!".

No one I know plays Puyo Pop Fever. :(
I wish they would localize the 15 Anniversary version with Nintendo Wifi support. :)
Peace.

NFS: Undercover. The game is a total shovelware, but the multiplayer was surprisingly good.

Probably 42 All-Time Classics (Clubhouse Games) as there are always people willing to play at primetime. MKDS is still going strong so I play that when I can. I would play FIFA 09 more but there are way too many sore losers so I only play through friendcodes.
My favourite atm is Call of Duty: World at War.

Clubhouse Games is the only game I will play on Nintendo Wifi.
All the other games are plagued with Action Replay cheaters.
Fact:
If God struck down all the Action Replay cheaters, hardly anyone would be left playing on Nintendo Wifi.
Peace.

Sadly, it's been far too long since I've actually played the local multiplayer, but I like the games with the most generous single cartridge modes, like Geometry Wars, and especially Clubhouse Games. If only the Texas Hold Em in CHG was no-limit. Ah well, still a great collection.

I like Mario Kart for multiplayer on any platform. And MP Hunters is good, as well as just about any puzzle game. And I really wish I knew enough people with DS's so I could get a big ass Bomberman game going. Only one card needed for 8 players, but most people I know don't do portable gaming anymore.
But really, the lack of Nintendo WiFi support in most games doesn't bother me at all since Nintendo decided not to include WPA support of any kind in the DS. It's also a bit too easy for people to cheat, which takes the fun out of things. At least when I'm in the room with someone I can punch them in the stomach for sullying the game with Action Replay codes.

I agree, MKDS and MPH are my favorites. I also like playing Advance Wars with friends since you can have multiple people play on one DS, yay for turn based games.

I haven't done much multiplayer on the DS lately. If I do, it's Tetris.

Clubhouse Games (alias 42 All-time Classics) and Mario Kart DS are my two favorites NWFC-enabled games.

The problem with local multiplayer is that you need to know someone else who actually owns a DS AND actually owns the game AND is in the same room as you.
When I'm lucky I can meet two of those requirements, but it's very rare when I can meet all 3.
Then there's the problem that not many games use WiFi multiplayer for anything good.
I'm still waiting for Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time. I think that one will be the first multiplayer game for DS that actually gets more than a rare hour or two actually being played multiplayer.
PigVenus @ Jan 9th 2009 5:05PM
Mario Party!
And its one of the very few games in which other players DO NOT have to have the game to play. We like to play this one as a family (we have several DS's in the household).
ZaPiKaChU @ Jan 9th 2009 5:32PM
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl!!!
But you gotta have good Pokemon or other players will whip your booty on wi-fi (speaking from experience) or local multiplayer for that matter.

Yu-Gi-Oh, hands down.
