CES 2009: SanDisk brings the power of the Rock Band 2 logo to a new SD card
SanDisk's new 2GB Rock Band 2 SD card is sure to nab some confused gamers and parents when it comes out this spring. It's got the Rock Band 2 logo on it, you see, and that means it works with Rock Band 2. Also, it's white, so you can tell it's a Wii accessory! And it's only about twice as much as you could pay for a 2GB SD card from reputable brands like ... SanDisk!Compared to some other Wii accessories, this one's not so bad. It actually is a working SD card that is just as usable as any other for Rock Band 2, copying VC and WiiWare games, and saving photos and stuff. It's just that you lose a lot of money when you buy an SD card from the video game aisle -- like, for example, SanDisk's Gaming SD card --instead of the camera accessories aisle.

I just picked up a 2GB card at Shopko for $10.

Its ridiculus that people actually buy overpriced things like this.
Lars @ Jan 7th 2009 7:26PM
Average price for a 2GB SD card is around $15, so it's not vastly overpriced. Though you could probably find a deal somewhere for $10.
But if I was in GameStop already, and wanted to snag a card for RB songs, I'd probably snag this one. It'll probably only be slightly higher than GameStop's normal prices, and the label makes it easy to figure out what it's purpose is so I don't get it mixed up with the plethora of SD cards I have lying around. In that scenario it's not worth the hassle and gas, bus fare, or whatever extra cost of searching for a better deal.

Wait a damn minute !
This means Nintendo is going to fully unlock the power of the SD card soon, which is fantastic. Storage solution is coming for WiiWare and Virtual Console games.
And for less than $20 this is a good deal for 75 songs, how much would that be if you downloaded all those songs. That's what .17 cents per song ?
Seems like a good deal to me.
And this is drastically cheaper than $49.99 price to buy Rock Band 2 by itself. I don't know how many songs are on the disk........
It sounds like a great deal to me, so why is WiiFanboy complaining. A mark up is expected in electronics.
JC Fletcher @ Jan 7th 2009 12:12PM
It doesn't have any songs on it. It CAN hold up to 75 songs.

Now the question is..I already have an SD card which I am using for GH:WT song downloads. I think I have about a dozen of them downloaded already. Do I buy a second SD card for RB2, and just swap as I swap the game discs? In fairness, it seems that the RB2 will have the 20 free songs to download as soon as the DLC is enabled.
Moleculo @ Jan 7th 2009 4:06PM
You don't need a separate card unless you fill one up. As many different games can use a card as you want.
Toast @ Jan 7th 2009 6:03PM
Well, what i'm wondering is, assuming that the DLC flows through 2009, i don't want to end up with SD#1 being filled with a mix of RB/GH tunes, and then have SD#2 continue to be mixed like that. I'll probably get a specific card for each game, so I never have to guess what card a particular song may or may not be on.
matt @ Jan 7th 2009 1:13PM
Um, kind of cheesy. Especially since the damn store isn't open yet.
KaBob799 @ Jan 7th 2009 2:31PM
Isn't this the sort of thing that companies get in trouble for?
juangrande386 @ Jan 7th 2009 3:31PM
I can already see uniformed parents from all over buying these. I can also see morons buying these just cause they say Rock Band and think theyre "collectors items".
Lars @ Jan 7th 2009 7:18PM
I didn't realize there was a parenting uniform. What is it? Sweats and a stained tee shirt?
Timerider @ Jan 8th 2009 2:28PM
I think he's missing an "n".

USB connectivity to a hard drive would have made so much sense. *sigh*
intro94 @ Jan 7th 2009 9:27PM
the wii does has USB connectivity(for lan), but the hard drives were not released, at least not yet.Anyway is fairly possibleif people pushed it more. But they havent. After all, flash drives are getting larger and there arent that many saving needs that a couple of gigs cant satisfy.
eggman06 @ Jan 7th 2009 6:15PM
They should be working on getting the music store up instead of releasing useless crap like this.
Lars @ Jan 7th 2009 7:19PM
Yeah... SanDisk should really get on that... :P
techfreak713 @ Jan 7th 2009 8:46PM
So my question is, is the card a typical SD card with a different sticker, or is it actually better in performance in any way?
