Rumor: Rhythm Heaven to be late, expensive
Amazon has updated their listing for Rhythm Heaven with some new boxart, along with a terrible new release date and terrible new price: November 30 and $40, respectively. We are hoping against hope that these are both just placeholders, because while we will wait that long and pay that much, we really, really don't want to. The game is out in Japan! It was shown off at E3 2008! It's done!
All we know for sure is that Rhythm Heaven is not coming out in the first quarter of this year. Nintendo's press site still has it scheduled for "1st half 2009." However, the fact that Gamestop has no listing at all for it does suggest that it's fairly far off.

If this is true, then it better have something like what Luminous Arc 2 pulled off to convince me to buy this game.

I guess I can wait, but I really don't want to wait, this is one of the few good DS games coming soon, please just give the damn game!

Nintendo's own DS support in the USA has been abysmal for a year now, quite frankly.
Even the most diehard fanboys don't try to argue otherwise. They instead change the subject or ignore it.

Why so long? Theres barely any text in this game...

i think they are not only translating the ds game but putting the original GBA game into this one as well. this would explain the expensive price and far off release date.

Rhythm Tengoku is the orig. GBA game this is based on. The DS game is Rhythm Tengoku Gold in Japan.

Glad I have both the original Japanese GBA game and the Japanese DS game... November would be too long to wait for fun! :) I paid $40 for the import so $40 for the domestic isn't that bad... the game IS worth it you know. But Nintendo might be shooting themselves in the foot with the price tag and then never release good games here again because no one wants to pay $40 for a game they know nothing about.

Not TOO surprised. Most of the first-party games targeting Nintendo's "red ocean" audience seem to launch at an MSRP of $35+.
I'm hoping low sales at that price will influence a price drop to $30 or lessbut from past Nintendo releases, it seems more likely that the game will get a low print run at $40, maybe hit $32-35 because of low demand, then go OOP and disappear from retailers. Awesome. :/

Well, they don't just have to translate text, but they also probably have to find a lot of new music, since a good amount is Japanese, and as catchy and fun as the songs are, they probably won't work well with the average American video gamer. Sort of like Elite Beat Agents. It's pretty much the same game as Ouendon (is that even how you spell it?) but the music is all different, and you have to change a lot of the game because of it.
