Wii Warm Up: Crossing into 2009

Animal Crossing: City Folk was seen as a bit of a disappointment by some longtime Animal Crossing players, due to the fact that it is extremely similar to previous iterations, with a perceived lack of much new content. But the real worth of any Animal Crossing game is revealed by its longevity, and we thought we would query you guys about that as we begin 2009.

Are you still actively participating in your town's life? If so, how long have you had the game? Do you foresee City Folk becoming a long-lived pastime for you, or will you put it down as soon as something else catches your eye?

It'll probally last for a while atleast till I get stuff paid off and then have most of the catalog. It will then be put in for special occasions.

My mom plays significantly more than I do she has her second house upgrade and has some good furniature, she plays it more than I play my wii. She sends me gifts though :)

I play Animal Crossing City Folk everyday since I got it for christmas and for the first time I have coworkers who bought it and we will play together. I owned all the previous animal crossing games and had no one to play with, so the fact that I can now play with my friends will allow me to enjoy AC:CF for years to come.

I've had it for a week. its pretty fun but it'll probably take back seat for me when madworld and the conduit come out in spring.

Hell yeah! This is the game I've been waiting for! I've been needing something like this. It's nice to have something to fill that space between major releases like Zelda, Mario, etc...
I will always make time for an Animal Crossing game!

I bought this game on the day it came out. I play it just about everyday. My wife and I started out both playing in the same town but her playing has kind-of petered out. It was great to play together (albeit alternating time in the town...) We had a lot of chances to: send stuff back and forth to each other, compare notes on our neighbors, and just get a lot of laughs about the town.

I still find it a fun and relaxing game to play(even by myself!) I have yet to get online, but a couple of my co-workers got the game for Christmas based on my recommendations. I'm hoping to get some online interactions going with them.

AC Wild World was a lot fun... But I find the size of and variety in the City Folk world to be much more engaging. AC City Folk is still holding my attention and I hope it does for a long time onward. :-)

Girlfriend and sister fell in love with this Animal Crossing Fc.

Now we play everyday, and the girlfriend decided to buy an DS because of it.

The world is really changing...

We have two adults and two young girls in the house who all play the game. And we've got WiiSpeak and have already tried out the online features with relatives.

I'd guess that at any one time, someone in the house will be playing this one all year long.

i got this for my wife for christmas and she has been playing it ever since,as for it being a repeat of other games,i would agree its so much like the ds version but for the gamecube i wouldnt go that far...seeing our ds version broke it really doesnt matter its like getting the game back again...

I ordered it from Amazon, got it a week after release, played it every day for two weeks, and now I got in about twice/three times a week to check up on things.

I've yet to try online, I have no coworkers...considering I'm 14.

Hell, I got it for Christmas, played it the day after for about an hour and haven't played it at all since then. I'm sorry, but it's boring. It's probably not my kind of game, but I simply don't see how it could be anybody's kind of game.

I just got it a few days ago and I have to say, I'm really a bit disappointed with it overall. They really didn't correct some of the problems with the previous games and there isn't much new here. I would just stick with Wild World.

No way, I'm not falling for it again. I got a lot of play out of the first one, but I bought Wild World only to be bored of it right after I started playing because it was exactly the same as the first Animal Crossing.

I bought the game for the wife to have a game to get sucked into. I have found that surprisingly it is a fun little past time. I do not get as into it or spend hours in it like I would regular games but it is fun to sit down with her and mold the town.

We will probably play off and on for a couple months at least.

Hadn't played the previous games, but my girlfriend and I are fairly addicted to this one. It's all new to us, so I'm sure that helps. Having two or more people in a household is essential to enjoy the game, I feel, if you don't have any online friends with the game.

There's a small group for Animal Crossing: City Folk where everyone has traded friend codes and keeps in touch through the message board (so we know when people are getting online, set up get-togethers, etc.)

Join up if you haven't gotten to take advantage of the online aspect, which feels key to the longevity of the game:

My girlfriend, her mom, my mom, and I all play for hours everyday. I never played Wild World but played the hell out of the Gamecube version

This game is not for everyone, but I have a feeling a lot of people want to knock it before they try it. My mom, someone who is opposed to playing nearly every video game, fell in love with this one! It is really great if you have a few people to share your AC experiences with. And, it is a great break from all of the FPS on my 360!

I was willing to ignore the series altogether. I got annoyed with the whole hardware-lockout thing with Wii Speak and I wanted to let it just pass me by.

Then my new room mate (and long-time friend) got me it for Christmas. I somewhat objected since my gift was much cheaper, but I took it and played it. He remembered that I liked the original, so he made a logical choice.

Starting a new game was what really made me appreciate it and want to play. I just moved in to a new house in the real world, in a new neighbourhood. I have never lived with these people, and I know nothing of the area. Starting up, Rover tells me how awesome it is to move to a new town and meet new people, wishing me well as I step off the bus. I willingly took it to heart and thought about what else my friend was thinking about when he got me this.

I play it nearly every day, thus far. I don't often buy in to all the new games, mostly getting DLC games or retro faves. It's simple enough that I can put in 30-45 min. a day and make it last.

This title was one of the reasons I originally bought a Wii. Unfortunately, I've found that the experience has dulled over time. Even with the new additions and improvements that can be made to your particular town, it lacks the necessary elements to keep me coming back. Maybe my mistake was buying Fallout 3 at the same time...

Anyway, I don't play it anymore. Maybe I will, one day...

I've been a long time fan of Animal Crossing. I played the first one when I was getting babysat about 9 years old and loved it. I had my parents get it for me some time after that, and become obsessed with it for about 2-3 months. And about 6 months ago I rented it again and became obsessed with it AGAIN. And I had gotten City Folk about a week ago and love it. Although I am not as addicted to it as I was before. Too similar I suppose. Also, I do not like how there is no "Need Anything", "Chat", or "Goodbye" option. I like to know for sure if someone needs a favor or not. I still love it though.

I loved the first AC on the GameCube, especially collecting NES games. Tried playing the DS version when it was released and but just couldn't get into it.

I purchased the Wii version on release day, hoping to recapture the fun I had with the GameCube version. But alas.... boredom set in after about 3 weeks. Same old game only with a few more fossils, fish, and furniture added.

I became really bored with spending 90min every third day harvesting fruit, 16 pieces at a time, to earn money. I missed my island paradise and earning the special items and money that only could be earned there. I missed the excitment of finding NES games.

Some people may love City Folk and that's cool. But I found the game boring because it added nothing new to gameplay or the AC world.... except I now have to pay for NES games.

I bought it hoping I'd like it despite hearing it's just a port... But seeing it's just a port made me depressed. I've played it a handful of times, and I probably will play it until I finish building up my house, and on special occasions... Or if I want to meet up with someone online. It's such a disappointment, though.

I received it as a birthday gift, and I've been playing it daily for the past month or so. It's a fun game to dive into for ten or twenty minutes (or longer, if it's a fruit-harvesting day) when I get home from work and then move on to "Fallout 3."

I played the Gamecube and DS versions, but I'm going to try for the golden net and fishing rod this time.

I'm still enjoying reading about my co-writer mum experience of the game. She's up to around six weeks of play and still going strong. The plan is to keep it going for a year:

My son plays all three, but especially LOVES the Wii version because of the online play via WiiSpeak. I can only hope he loses interest. He's played the GC version, off and on, since it was NEW. I tired of it after ten minutes.

I was actually really disappointed in Wild World because it was too similar to the GCN version. I probably stopped really playing it after a week or two.

But I'm absolutely loving City Folk. I play it every day and can't get enough.

We'll see how this one goes. I played the original for quite a while, and then the DS game, not so much. I carried my Game Boy habit onto the DS, only playing when I was out of the house (with the exception of the Pokémon years), so I've never been much of a DS gamer (until Phantom Hourglass, which is more like the console games than past portable Zeldas).

I think coming in as a new player is more fun, because I already know half the secrets of this game. My sister's only had it a week, and she already has a few golden tools. There are a few little things that surprised me.

But I can only catch the same fish so many times.
