Rock Band Wii DLC coming 'as early in 2009 as possible'
For the few of you out there still waiting to sink your teeth into Rock Band DLC, Harmonix has announced the company is getting closer to flicking the switch that will turn on the tidal wave of DLC awaiting Wii gamers. As you all know, we're supposedly getting all of the DLC from the first game, as well as the second (and a bunch of free tracks, to boot). If you're keeping score at home, that's a lot. Right now, Harmonix is working on getting the 20 free tracks available, as well as 30 from the Rock Band DLC catalogue, to start.
Of course, a lot of you still feel cheated by Harmonix and have decided to go with Guitar Hero: World Tour instead, as you've made known time and time again. It's perfectly understandable. We probably would've done the same thing if we had a lot of money to blow on plastic instruments. The problem is that when you work for cruel masters like we do, you're only paid in vicious beatings.

Wow. They just continue to show their contempt for Wii Owners. Glad I did not pick up the first Rock Band, and glad I decided not to pick up the second Rock Band. Screw you Harmonix.
Andy @ Jan 2nd 2009 9:02PM
I believe that Harmonix has stated that they realized they handled the Wii poorely, and will do better next time around. At least they're doing infinitely better than the original Rock Band, though.
I'll probably get Rock Band 2 eventually, when I have the money for it. From what I've read, it sounds like I'll enjoy it more than GHWT.
EricC @ Jan 3rd 2009 9:13AM
I don't understand this "contempt" for Wii owners that everyone talks about. Do you honestly believe there's malice behind the way they've handled the Wii versions to date? If so, I feel sorry for you and all of the people that live on your planet.
Wii owners are just another demographic to Harmonix. They don't dislike us any more than they dislike PS3 and 360 owners. They probably dislike those that claim they have contempt, though...so, it's almost as if you've created your own self-fulfilling prophecy or something.
megapenguinx @ Jan 2nd 2009 7:53PM
I hope they release the free tracks like Still Alive for us too.
I would pick up GHWT, but I don't have the extra $100 for 2 more controls to play 4 players
Spike @ Jan 3rd 2009 1:50AM
probably not still alive, because the 360 and PS3 have the orange box, but maybe the other free songs, who knows, it may be replaced with a nintendo song
Will @ Jan 2nd 2009 10:07PM
For my money, Rock Band 2 is so much better than World Tour, that I don't mind waiting a couple of weeks after release for the crazy amount of DLC that is coming. Add that to the fact that a good portion of Rock Band DLC is actually good, as opposed to only a few good World Tour songs. RB2 FTW.
lego91994 @ Jan 3rd 2009 2:25AM
A few? Smashing pumpkins, Eagle, the Killers, Raconteurs, Nirvana....
Anti-Villian @ Jan 4th 2009 12:55AM
Pfft to both of you, it's a damn matter of taste >.>
Danny @ Jan 2nd 2009 10:43PM
We waited 3 months (well I didn't, but others did), for this game because harmonic decided to release it on each console one month at a time. Now considering the Wii version came out last, this is unacceptable. It should be ready. And I did in fact buy world tour, I don't care for rock bands cheap white drum kit.
EricC @ Jan 3rd 2009 9:09AM
The RB2 drum kit for the Wii isn't white or cheap. You have had great success with the fail.
Danny @ Jan 3rd 2009 11:36AM
well even so, there is no excuse for it not to be ready. It's the last system to release it, and why are they releasing it one system at a time?
Spencer @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:36PM
I'm fine with waiting. GHWT downloadable content sucks big time, so Activision doesn't get a leg up on this one.
lego91994 @ Jan 3rd 2009 2:29AM
I don't understand.... are they going to give us 30 free songs from the original RB catologue?
EricC @ Jan 3rd 2009 9:10AM
No. 20 free songs (as far as I can tell, they are the same free 20 that everyone else got), and 30 pay songs to round out the initial offering to 50 tracks total.
matt @ Jan 3rd 2009 11:58AM
Rock Band 2 for the Wii is a killer package. I can't get enough of this freaking game. I've only had it since Christmas, so I've still got plenty more rocking to do until the DLC rolls in, but I can't wait for that stuff.
I think Harmonix really went out of their way this round to put out a quality product.
I don't know why you have to pick a camp on this one and be a dick about the other one. You can buy the other disk. Hell, rent the thing and play it before you talk all the trash.
Bay78 @ Jan 3rd 2009 1:04PM
Hi there. Here is a perspective of someone that owns Rock Band 2 on ALL 3 SYSTEMS! The wii version has come a long way. Harmonix hasn't forgotten about wii gamers. They will fix the problem. I can't see it being much further then the 15th of January before the first wave of dlc is out. Its just too bad you can't import your AC/DC tracks over to Rock Band 2 like you can on PS3 and 360 to play them online
matt @ Jan 3rd 2009 1:58PM
First of all: all three systems, what the F?
Second of all. Friend code? Mine's 4582-0518-0001.
Oh, let me use this spot to pimp the Rock Band 2 for Wii Facebook group:

murdew78 @ Jan 3rd 2009 3:22PM
Hey Matt. I have friends that have the game on all 3 different systems. I enjoy playing online with all of them , not just some of them. I wrote down your friend code and will add you. Please do the same for me and mine is :
2778 1659 5108
What is your name in Rock Band 2 so I know who it is online?
WiiRox @ Jan 4th 2009 9:33AM
The January 22nd release is not Rockband 2 for Wii. Its "Rock Band - AC/DC Live Song Pack" for Rock band 1. Sucks! :(
Matthew @ Jan 4th 2009 10:00AM
I know it's been said before way too many times, but as an owner of both the 360 and the Wii, I just don't understand how the Wii DLC will work with their horrible idea of using SD cards. Right now, my DLC on the 360 takes up 12 gigs of space, and some of the packs/albums are 600+megs. I wish Nintendo would stop ignoring the fact that we need a real storage solution on the Wii immediately, as it'll be a major pain for real RB fanatics, and eventually GHWT, and any other game with serious DLC (as a lot are trending that way these days) on the Wii.

I picked up GT:WT, as I already had GT3. I liked it, but it always felt like there was something just off. Although it was more band oriented, with the rotating roster of band members, it just kind of bothered me. I also don't like the way they do the whole venue/song thing. How about I pick my Gig, and then my Song? That, and the graphics don't look as nice as they did in GT3. So as I already have a full set of instruments, I picked up Rock Band 2. And like it much better. But you know what? I still have two new games that work with the same things. Pretty sweet if you ask me.
Oh, and the way the drums play in RB2 suck compared to GT:WT. Hopefully Harmonix wakes up, and does a Guitar Hero-type drum setup, not the four pads that randomly turn into cymbols.
Gewurz Man got equipped with... Rock Band 2! @ Jan 4th 2009 10:11PM
I cracked. I now have an XBox 360 and a lot less monies.
Helwinc @ Jan 5th 2009 2:16PM
Can you use an external USB hard drive for storage?
