Tim @ Dec 31st 2008 10:46AM
I'll pass, due to region-locking, shorter battery life, and the removal of the GBA slot.
8bitman @ Dec 31st 2008 11:08AM
I say the same. My DS Lite seems better.
igorponweed @ Dec 31st 2008 11:40AM
Yo can keep you DS (lite), you know. It's not region locked for cart based games, only DSWare.
aj @ Dec 31st 2008 11:26AM
Thirded.
And my wife is holding on to her DS lite as well. This counts as a "fourthed", I believe.
jsutcliffe @ Dec 31st 2008 12:56PM
Add me to that list. The main reason I picked a DS over a PSP (not that I'd ever want a PSP now I know more about handhelds) was that the GBA slot made the game library _gigantic_ and full of nifty RPGs. I also like having all my games on one flash cart. What is the benefit of having a DSI? A slightly larger screen and a low-res camera? No thanks.
Red Confession @ Dec 31st 2008 1:13PM
Oh agreed.
I just got my lite, I don't need a new system. I don't need a camera on my DS that badly.
damn @ Jan 2nd 2009 8:37AM
"DSi is a compliment to the Lite, not a replacement"
You can have both, you know?
Deona @ Dec 31st 2008 3:43PM
I'm excited for the dsi. I have the old fat ds and really need a brighter screen. Having no gba slot doesn't bother me at all, because I never play gba games on my ds....and I haven't played a gba game in years anyway. I like all the extra features the dsi has to offer.
Kenny Wisdom @ Dec 31st 2008 11:19AM
I'm definitely getting one.
Personally I'm hoping that Nintendo will partner with some websites and services and allow an iPhone-like app store for the DSi through DSWare. Twitter and Facebook on my DSi? Yes please.
im bob @ Jan 5th 2009 6:25PM
i second that! Plus the dsi is going to have its own library of games, cant miss out can we?
edwardorito @ Dec 31st 2008 11:27AM
hmmm.........year of the DSi? The only time I'll get it is IF the Kingdom Hearts package comes with the game and gba slot.
aj @ Dec 31st 2008 11:25AM
Nintendo Power is apparently doing an "RPG special" in February. I'm just excited about all the RPGs hitting the DS in the next year.
MyquiH @ Dec 31st 2008 12:06PM
My questions for the DSi:
1) Will we see a working flashcart for it? I don't pirate, per-se, but I load all my carts' images on a flashcart so I don't have to use the real cart. I love that!
2) Did they make the shoulder buttons more reliable? My kids and I have each killed one DS with worn-out shoulder buttons.
Roto13 @ Dec 31st 2008 12:49PM
You can usually fix the shoulder buttons by putting your mouth around it and blowing.
jsutcliffe @ Dec 31st 2008 12:53PM
I found that to be only a temporary fix -- presumably moisture from my breath helping the contacts meet for a short while.
Roto13 @ Dec 31st 2008 5:40PM
...
Puddles @ Dec 31st 2008 12:34PM
I still don't understand what's so great about the DSi. What great content are people looking forward to? I haven't heard about any of it.
Eric @ Dec 31st 2008 12:43PM
I just got a DS Lite - while GBA compatibility isn't a deal-breaker for me, since I have the Game Boy micro right next to my DS, I'd appreciate Guitar Hero compatibility.
I'm just hoping there are no "absolutely necessary" games for donwload-only.
Roto13 @ Dec 31st 2008 12:51PM
I'll probably pick one up after there are a few DSiWare games I want. The fact that Wario Ware was a launch game for the service in Japan is a good sign.
Metayoshi @ Dec 31st 2008 1:16PM
I'm not picking up the DSi unless they show me some competent DSWare games. So far, that camera doesn't look like such a hot addition, nor does it add many improvements to gameplay. We'll see if that changes in the near future...
milan @ Dec 31st 2008 1:28PM
Only when a good flashcard solution comes along...The DS still has such a library of good games. Until I play most of those, not too much reason for this new one... (But I still want one because I'm a gadget whore)
PSN: Erdie @ Dec 31st 2008 1:31PM
I just bought 2 GBA games a week ago and am playing them on my Lite. I won't be getting a DSi.
Danny @ Dec 31st 2008 1:33PM
Well I'm deginately picking one up, it's pretty cool. But I am keeping my lite, I love guitar hero: on tour and unlike many people I don't play hours without stopping and then complain that it hurts. It's actually pretty fun. Not only that it can be useful to own to nintendo ds's.
PX @ Dec 31st 2008 2:18PM
im actually looking forward to buying it. just hope that they release different colors for the U.S. the first ones out are actually not the best ones. they're the ones that have the most problems i think. well, good luck with everybody!
ChaoticTails @ Dec 31st 2008 3:29PM
I'm not going to get a DSi until there is some exclusive game that is actually worth getting. (I.E. an incredibly amazing Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, etc.) Not to mention it will block out my flashcard (forcing me to carry a game case with it, and not let me use DPG format videos), and render my GBA library useless, I think I'll wait a long time before I get one of these pieces of shovelware. As much as Nintendo loves money, they won't get me on this one.
It's kind of ironic how Nintendo goes through all the trouble to add Photos and MP3 playback, but homebrew can already do a lot of the stuff they added...
tekdroid @ Jan 1st 2009 6:39AM
They added AAC playback, not MP3. Homebrew can't do half the stuff Nintendo added on the DSi. Whether or not it's worth it is down to personal preference.
DVD @ Dec 31st 2008 3:59PM
Y'all are so wack (not wiggidy wack, just regular type) I'm buyin' a DSi ASAP. DSiware sounds AWESOME!
Josh @ Dec 31st 2008 5:21PM
I'm definitely waiting. Once a couple of amazing DSiWare apps come out, I'll let myself consider the purchase.
nillaP @ Dec 31st 2008 5:46PM
I think im done with DS's in general I just don't play them anymore. its time for me to move on
Covnam @ Dec 31st 2008 6:18PM
I'll probably pick one up eventually, I'm still using the original DS. Though I do have a lot of GBA games to play still... Maybe I'll wait to see how long it takes to get hacked. I'd rather put all my games onto an SD card than carry around 40+ carts
Turbo @ Dec 31st 2008 9:08PM
Im looking forward to it now, since my damn R4 messed up, i'm sure someone will be able to make a DS and GBA emulator for the DSi so I can play my back-ups.
Anthony @ Dec 31st 2008 10:39PM
I've been waiting for the Nintendo DSi for a very long, long time. I knew that something like the DSi would come along as soon as I read an article back in late 2006/early 2007 regarding a so called rumored Nintendo DS2 that Nintendo was supposed to be developing.
I find Nintendo to be so much more enjoyable than Sony PlayStation. Our family was blessed with the Nintendo Wii this holiday season and our entire family enjoys it and a Nintendo DSi would be an enjoyable addition to our household.
I agree with everything Kenny Wisdom said and I intend to with the God's blessing purchase a Nintendo DSi in May of 2009; yet I hope that Nintendo of America will up the release date to the early Spring just like Europe's Nintendo has done.
I also look forward to using the DSi Ware shop and download all those wonderful features such as the DSi exclusive WarioWare.
Happy New Year and here's to the Nintendo DSi.
EvilEmperor @ Jan 1st 2009 8:57AM
To me, the year of the Nintendo DSi is 2008.
I have traded in my 2 half broken DS lites for DSi already.
I have sold my only 2 remaining GBA games along with the lites, so losing the GBA slot is not a concern to me.
WiiLove @ Jan 1st 2009 10:26AM
I'll wait until the import price goes down cuz I just got a Wii, but I'll get it eventually it will be nice at home with my regular DS!!! Plus, it's like a portable Wii, with the DSi Shop and everything, If I'm at my friend's house and there's no Wii, I can use the DSi and it'll have that same feeling!!!! and that exclusive Wario Ware sounds good!!!
Emily @ Jan 1st 2009 3:03PM
I don't own a DS or DS Lite, so assuming the DSi isn't release too far after late March, I'll be asking for it for my birthday. Personally, I'm looking forward to not having to borrow my nephew's DS all the time.
omatic810 @ Jan 1st 2009 4:13PM
If and when a homebrew or official DSi-ware allows GBA games from the SD card, and there's a good flashcart for the DSi that is likely to stay viable for a long time, I'll get one.
EPerson @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:03AM
Yeah, call me crazy but I have been playing my GBA more than my DS for the past 6 months. I just picked up four TIGHT RPGs for GBA and haven't put them down since..
Nycteris @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:01AM
I'm not sure I need it on its own merit, but if my DS breaks (and it is starting to act flaky) I may have to make the jump.
Then again... you shouldn't buy rev 1.0 of anything...
Lianne @ Jan 2nd 2009 12:46PM
I'll pass....My DS Lite isn't even a year old yet!
I don't use the GBA slot at all, but the only thing that would make me give my Lite up would be a bunch of really fun games that NEED the DSi (face tracking games perhaps...). That, and a really good trade-in deal at GameStop.
XDragon @ Jan 2nd 2009 1:12PM
I'm sticking with my lite.
I'm not impressed with the DSi.
Seriously, if the GBA slot was to be removed, I would have expected a much sleeker looking system; the thing looks the same as the lite.
Seeing what the hackers pull off with the SD slot may cause me to change my mind, but its not likely.
cantwait @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:33PM
Im soooooo exited about this.I'll wait in line for this system if i have too.I dont use the gba slot or play GH cus thats y i have a 360.The camer sounds awsome. And all u ppl saying OHHH im not gonna buy one cus of the flash card thing STOP being sooo bull just buy an acekard 2i
rodjoh @ Jan 4th 2009 1:09PM
Im not too excited about it but I know I'm getting it eventually... I haven't been using my DS much lately to be honest... that might change this year though.
Anthony @ Jan 6th 2009 2:05PM
I'm so excited to discover that the United Kingdom and the United States will both get the DSi in March of this year: 2009.
I live in North America and as I've said before I'm looking forward to buying the Nintendo DSi in March and I have all my money laid aside for the DSi.
