Club Nintendo returns (for now)
Club Nintendo, the long-awaited rewards site, opened to North American gamers on December 15, and has been in a perpetual state of kinda working since then -- some people couldn't log in, some couldn't access surveys, and the site has oscillated between being on- and offline. That is, until Christmas, when ... the site went down for maintenance.Good news for those of you anxious to register codes from all the games you got over the holidays: the site is back. Not better, but back to its unreliable pre-Christmas state, which means that you can enter codes and earn Coins, but you may have to hit F5 a few times to wake the site back up. Alas, we didn't all get bonus Coins for the inconvenience, thus dashing our hopes of earning the hanafuda cards.

I entered some codes, but got no points. :-(

You need to fill out the quick surveys for those games, too, if you haven't done so already.
If you have done the surveys, I'd say wait a little and check back to see if your account updates. If it doesn't, I believe there is a number to call somewhere that will get you a person who can help.
Drahken @ Dec 30th 2008 2:54PM
Yeah, that happened to me on one game. So I decided to wait to finish up all the surveys for my backlog of registered games. I figure they've got to fix the site sooner or later, and I'd rather wait than lose coins.

Nice. I was finally able to transfer my old Nintendo account over to a Club Nintendo one. Prior to the update I got stuck in the never-ending "you need to transfer your account by registering" loop when trying to log in.

Still, no love for us latinoamericans
Mr Khan @ Dec 30th 2008 3:31PM
Huh, good thing i didn't try beyond an initial test of a few titles.
I've still got like 3 weeks until i go back to school. Something menial like that could be a good time-killer, especially given how buggy it still is

I had a TON of games registered from my nintendo account and it ported all of those over. Before Christmas I was able to take all the surveys and cash in my points for the Game & Watch DS game which is now supposedly on its way to me!
Shadow31 @ Dec 30th 2008 6:46PM
Ditto.
Bumcats @ Dec 30th 2008 3:48PM
Still don't see a survey up for a game I registered.
spyker @ Dec 30th 2008 3:52PM
I don't care. I already got game and watch in the mail today :D.
Roto13 @ Dec 30th 2008 3:54PM
I can finally migrate my account. I did a survey for Twilight Princess and it didn't go through, then I did it again and got 50 coins. Apparently I have like 20 more to do, though. This could take a while. :P
I guess I have to email them to get coins for Mega Man 3 and Maboshi's Arcade.
Adolph @ Dec 30th 2008 4:01PM
actually no you don't need to call them. I did today.
Girl on the phone said that it takes a few weeks for those types of games to process. 4 weeks since the website went live, and she doesn't know if that is today or first time it went live.
Remember nothing expires THIS YEAR 2008. The new Nintendo years starts July 1st.
The website seemed to fix allot of bugs from inside, but still most of the people working are also new to this.
Roto13 @ Dec 30th 2008 5:35PM
Ah, ok. Thanks. Well I already got Platinum status (woo free stuff in six months) and those few Wii Shop Channel games wouldn't have given me enough for anything more than I can afford right now, so waiting doesn't bother me.
Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Dec 30th 2008 9:57PM
Eh, I'm actually kind of salty. I registered a TON of vc and WiiWare games and got an email from NOA that said ONLY games from Dec. 08 and on were eligible, so I got a donut on all that. I didn't even get coins for ExciteTruck.
I hate to be bitter, but my understanding was that I'd be getting coins for all that stuff. I'll happily FW along the email for NOA that states that.
Roto13 @ Dec 30th 2008 10:05PM
When the site launched, they released a list of games that were eligible for coins.

Some of those downloadable games (like World of Goo) were released before December 8th, but I think all games released after December 8th (via the shop channel) are eligible for coins. I bought Maboshi's Arcade yesterday and it showed up in my list.
Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Dec 31st 2008 3:16PM
Thanks, dude. I'm still a salty pretzel, but mildly appeased. :)
Eric @ Dec 30th 2008 9:41PM
I can't log in now...
My concern is the Virtual Console game I bought on Saturday... or don't we get points for those?
I entered the code from a Wii game, and did the survey, but the survey broke apparently, so I have to do it again. I have a DS game left to do, and a GBA game - do we get anything for those anymore?
Carl @ Dec 30th 2008 11:07PM
I can still login... but it still doesn't register when I take a survey...
sydscrib @ Dec 31st 2008 12:19AM
I'm finally able to log in after their site maintenance. I haven't had any problems after that, thank goodness. I've got 310 coins so far. Blarg, I'm one step closer to those cards...
