Gaming to Go: Space Invaders Extreme

My fingers hurt. If Space Invaders Extreme is anything, it's an absolute workout for the fingers, a test of endurance, passion, and an opportunity for developer Taito to take an old formula and crank things up to 11. Very rarely does slapping on the word 'extreme' actually mean anything, but this latest incarnation of Space Invaders is an exception to that rule, as my sore thumbs can attest.
Did you miss out on the original Space Invaders? The classic was before your time, perhaps, or deemed unworthy for whatever coins you could bleed out of your piggy bank. Dry your tears, friend! This extreme update of a retro classic is your greatest chance to find peace in these discordant times. Come along with this week's edition of Gaming to Go to see why saving quarters all those years ago might have been a good idea after all.*
*So now you can buy this, see? Not because the original was bad or ... nevermind.

Check your local GameStop, they just recently marked this game down to $9.99 new.

Isn't their some GBA slot peripheral you can use for this game?
Matt Madeiro @ Dec 29th 2008 10:52PM
Yup, the paddle controller, an import-only item that fleshes out the gameplay even further.
Space Invaders Extreme is still a blast without it, of course, so I wouldn't go so far as to say the paddle is essential.
Thanks for reading!

How could you not mention the paddle controller???
Matt Madeiro @ Dec 29th 2008 10:50PM
Because it's still a fantastic game without it?
The paddle controller is also an import item, one that comes in pretty pricey. Couple that with the fact that someone might not want to lug it around with their DS whenever they're gaming on the go (especially if it can only be used with a couple of titles), and hopefully you can see why I didn't think it necessary to bring it up.
Thanks for reading, nonetheless!

But how do I obtain this paddle? Is there a place I can order one?
pr0vidence @ Dec 30th 2008 9:09AM
I ordered mine from here

though it looks like they only have pink in stock ATM. Some creative googling, I'm sure, will reveal more sources for paddle sales. I feel it's an essential part to playing Space Invaders Extreme, not to mention Arkanoid DS. Get it, I'm serious, even if it's pink, get it.

It was so long since I last cared about Space Invaders. That was until I played this. This is an amazing revival of the frachise. Fun to play with friends too!
