Super Smash Bros. leads January VC lineup in Japan
Nintendo of Japan has announced their plans for the next month's Virtual Console games, and, for once, the list includes a Nintendo 64 title. Super Smash Bros. is headed to the Japanese VC in January. Pokémon Snap came out in the US within a week of the Japanese release last year, so maybe this year's big winter N64 game will follow suit. Nintendo has lovingly appended an extra 200 points to the normal cost of a Nintendo 64 game for this release.Super Smash Bros. is likely to be the only thing anyone reading this will care about, given the combined Brawl obsession of the Wii audience and the first-party-franchise domination of VC sales, but we've got the whole (rather small) lineup for January after the break just because.
Famicom
- Tantei Jinguuji Saburo: Kiken na Futari Zengo-hen (January 6)
- Getsu Fuuma Den
- ZOIDS Mokushiroku
- Nintendo All-Stars Dairantou Smash Bros.
- Fantasy Zone II: Opa-Opa no Namida (Tears of Opa-Opa)
- Wonder Boy III Monster Lair (January 6)
- Rastan Saga II
- Kaze no Densetsu Xanadu 2
- Spriggan mark 2
- Champion Wrestler

I remember when there was that rumour that the N64 Smash Bros. would hit the Virtual Console right before Brawl came out. I even bought a Wii Points Card in anticipation. xD
But if it's 1200 points when (and if) it comes out here, I'm not buying it unless there's some kind of extra content or something. There's no reason for it to cost more than every other non-import N64 game on the VC.
bug frawg @ Dec 26th 2008 4:04PM
Wait, why would it be 1,200?
N64 non-imports are always 1000 points.

bug frawg:
I don't know why Nintendo priced it at 1,200, but they did. :/
bug frawg @ Dec 27th 2008 12:43AM
It's just that 'premium' games have higher prices than 'regular' games in japan, but in america it usually stays at a fixed price. Did that change?

'bout damn time.

I don't think im gonna get it unless they add in online play. I know its alot to ask, but the emulated version has it.
CJLopez @ Dec 26th 2008 7:07PM
They'd need to rehash the code of the game, which they ain't doing with any of the game
The online capability of the emulated version is thanks to the emulator and not the rom.
VC games are as they are in their catridged version
Roto13 @ Dec 26th 2008 11:38PM
They aren't always. Pokemon Snap, for example, allowed you to export photos to the message board.
gamer4250 @ Dec 26th 2008 3:32PM
Well we all know that the 64 smash bros is the most fun of them all.
esposch @ Dec 27th 2008 5:54AM
Except Brawl. And Melee.
gamer4250 @ Dec 27th 2008 12:27PM
Except that Brawl sucks. Melee comes close.

I disagree entirely but respect your opinion.
The internet can be fun without insults.

must buy!!

Ah, I hope this comes out before I go back to school. =) Us poor college will never get anything done if we have all three Smash Bros to distract us.
Tristan @ Dec 26th 2008 5:47PM
Highway Robbery, lol. Regardless I wonder if I should pick it up. It will be great reliving the fun of Saffron City. Actually I wonder if they will modify it for online play (probably not).
Where is my Jet Force Gemini Nintendo and RARE!?
CJLopez @ Dec 26th 2008 7:09PM
You just answered yer question pal
Given that RARE holds part of the licensing, its in the same blackhole as Banjoo and Kazooie, Conker's Bad Fury Day, Perfect Dark and Golden Eye are.
So you can remain sitted waiting for it till RARE and Nintedo are best pals again
Cyber-Tyrant @ Dec 27th 2008 12:30AM
You'd think they would release Smash before Brawl...
Zedar @ Dec 29th 2008 11:57AM
That sounds reasonable in theory, but it would have most likely detracted from Brawl sales.
