DS Daily: Most surprising game of 2008?
It's the time of year when websites begin looking back at all the other times of the year -- with roundups, lists, retrospectives, etc. And we're no exception! We thought we'd include you in the festivities as well, because we When we talk about a year's biggest gaming surprises, that could mean a few different things -- most unexpected news stories, surprise game announcement or game release, etc. But what we mean this time is this: what game did you not expect to like so much this year? For us, it was Dragon Ball Origins. Sure, it looked great, but it was a licensed game, so we expected disappointment. Then it turned out to be great! Surprise!

Do people spend money on games they aren't expecting to enjoy? I don't. I suppose that you could borrow a game from a friend....but I had no (good) surprises because I just bought what I knew I'd like.

Soul Bubbles...hands down. I completely ignored this game until I played the demo from the Nintendo channel. It's a pity it's only available at Toys R Us.

It's available on Amazon now.

I was shocked when they announced Mario Luigi RPG 3. I thought it was going to come out on the 7th generation system but coming out on the DS! Suprising!

Blazer Drive- terrible artwork, story, voice acting, etc. but incredible game.
Also, a bomberman game that doesn't suck (Custom Battler Bomberman) was nice for a change.

I got my DS in February 08. I think the games I've had most fun with are the Ace Attorney series. Those games hook you in a way you can't stop playing until you're done with the cases.
I also played ninjatown from the download service and enjoyed it a lot. Still I think I'll wait till a price drop before I buy it.
My biggest disappointment so far has been Final Fantasy 3. It looks nice but it basically has no story at all. I think it's the only DS game I own that I haven't finished. Maybe I will next year.

Oh and I forgot to mention Dragon Ball Origins. It's really good. I always wanted a Dragon Ball game zelda like. And the story is very funny. It makes me remember the shows I watched 15 years ago.

TWENY - Didn't know what to expect. I needed something to hold me over until FFTA2. Both games offer plenty of play time to the RPG completionist.

As in news, I say Chrono Tigger. The whole world rumbled when they heard it was going to come back and with some extra stuff. Great thing for those who never had the chance to play this shiny pearl in the SNES era. (Though I still want me some EarthBound on DS but thats another story)

I felt the same way ^^
I was surprised that SE was re-releasing it on the DS, I thought they would never re-release it. They seem to only value FF, KH, and DQ, so I thought CT was a lost cause for good.

Ninjatown fur sure!! On a whim picked it up & it serves up some pretty great defend challenges along with a ton of tongue in cheek B humor that from time to time actually entertains. Nice for short bursts of play or an hour straight.

The imagine ... series. I was surprised at how this series drag on for so long
