DS Daily: Pinching pennies
Nintendo announced a ton of new releases for Q1 yesterday. As line-ups go, it's packed full of goodness -- frankly, it blows the Wii selection out of the water. There are at least ten or eleven games in this list that we would typically buy on day one. Alas, our painfully slim blogging wages are going to be stretched if we buy even half of them, so we're going to have to revise where our pennies go. Have your spending plans changed with the release of the Q1 schedule?

Im going to buy a R4 and wait for the release groups to provide dumps to save pennies

And you are the reason why Nintendo hates homebrew. Thanks for that.
If you are going to "rent" the games from torrent sites, at least BUY them if you like them.

Get a cycloDS, its alot better. More functions, and not all games work w/ r4 (FF4 for instance), plus cyclo is always updating their stuff.
As for the guy who first replied to your comment, thats what the point of homebrews are. They are to rent games to see if you want to actually buy them. I play so many games that I hated that if I had actually bought them I would be penniless. I buy all of the games I truly love.

Sad to say it, this is exactly why a lot of people Yarr! like that - money reasons...
I also have to blame marketing a lot - how many games really honestly look a lot better than they actually are - the ads display the best parts of the games, and ignore the boring, the mundane, or the crap that you have to wade through to get them. If you *could* rent a game for 30 minutes, and then be given the option to buy it then, or never play it again, how many games would you have said "Nope, not worth it" to that you currently own? How many more games would you have been likely to buy?
There's always going to be people who Yarr! and never pay a cent. If even half of them turned honest, and downloaded games, and bought the good ones they liked, Nintendo would see an increase in sales. It just comes down to personal integrity - some people have it, some people don't...

Does DS Fanboy not have a policy of banning people who openly brag about never paying for games?
Because I vote that one gets implemented.

I bought Dragon Ball Origins in early December for $30. This week I checked gamestop's price drops and there it was, DBO for $20... I think I won't be buying anything until mid 09.
I have too many games still unopened from black friday and price drops are coming pretty fast.
Tim @ Dec 18th 2008 12:50PM
Tell me about them.
Heck, even DS ports of Disgaea and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure are $20 each; Space Invaders Extreme, Exit DS, and Legend of Kage 2 are US$10 each.
Yes, this comes from Gamestop.com, as I checked before I slept.

you guys are lucky, there hasn't been any price drops in Canada. If anything EB has increased their price on a few titles (Castlevania, DBO, ect). =(
aj @ Dec 19th 2008 7:24AM
EB Canada has raised prices a LOT. I went in to pick up my pre-order of Persona 4 and somehow 40$ became 50$. I asked for my money back.
Try Future Shop, they're being good about selling things at the MSRP, and in doing so can be up to 10$ cheaper than EB.
I think EB/GameStop has a new "we hate the customers" policy.
chibi_wings @ Dec 19th 2008 10:35AM
Not all the games are being overpriced in my experience, and I can usually find a good deal, so I go there once in a while. I actually have had very bad experiences with Future Shop and overpricing, so I never go in there.lol. I usually try BestBuy, Walmart, ect. before I buy a game.
but yes, I had the same thing happen to me with rhapsody, I preordered it and it was 35 instead of 30. But strangely enough Disgaea DS was still 30 >___>

I tend to do a lot of research on the games I'd like and then import. The sites I use usually have the DS games for about half of what I would be in stores here, even when they first come out.

As far as pinching pennies goes, I found a great deal today. Exit DS may not be a great game, but oddly, Gamestop had it for $9.99. Don't know if this was a mistake at the one store, but well worth it if it wasn't.

It's not.
