Zero Punctuation takes on Sonic Unleashed
In this week's Zero Punctuation, imperator of ire and maharajah of moodiness Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw has taken time out to sling a few quick-witted barbs at Sonic Unleashed.
True to form, Yahtzee quickly sets about smacking Unleashed down a peg or ten; in fact, this could be one of the angriest pieces we've seen from Croshaw in some time. It didn't totally agree with our own mainly scathing review, either: for one, he seems to prefer the

I heart Yahtzee
Roto13 @ Dec 17th 2008 6:50PM
Sounds like he wasn't actually reviewing the Wii version, just using the box art. The exploration stuff in the overworld was, thankfully, cut out of the Wii version.
Mr Khan @ Dec 17th 2008 7:11PM
Nope. I'm not even going to try it. Why listen to Yahtzee regurgitate 9 years worth of mindless Sonic hate when i get it everytime Sonic is brought up anywhere?
Haohmaru @ Dec 17th 2008 8:07PM
I'm with you on that. I haven't played the Wii version, but I have honestly enjoyed the PS3 version.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Dec 17th 2008 8:20PM
"mindless arguments" = "arguments backed up with plenty of valid points against the 3D Sonic titles"
Mr Khan @ Dec 17th 2008 9:05PM
They might be valid to some, perhaps to many, but to Sonic fans it's been endlessly tiring
Phil @ Dec 17th 2008 9:08PM
The only PROBLEM is that Yahtzee's becoming more and more unpleasantly negative and trollish.
Just look at his Mirror's Edge review. For one part, he didn't even bother to comment on the story which while not revolutional, I think he almost 'approved' of that story, because he has that dark humor of thinking a totalitarian regime might be funny or something...
And again with this review, he liked the fucking werehog/wolfhog stages?! What the fuck!?
And he goes around, touting that classics don't matter, blah blah blah.
He's 50/50 for me. I'm not expecting his opinion to always match mine or mine to match his and so on, but it seems sometimes he just trolls a 'bit' too much.
...And then I've seen the GameDamage thing and listened to a podcast or two, he's either doing it as a 'character' thing or he's just REALLY REALLY REALLY jaded as a gamer.
MowDownJoe @ Dec 17th 2008 9:42PM
Just because you don't agree with him, he's a troll? Ludwig Keitzman, Joystiq's resident Sonic Fanboy, mentioned in the podcast that he got over the Werehog stages in 5 minutes. His biggest complaint was the overabundance of quicktime events in the day stages.
Kokomadeta @ Dec 17th 2008 7:15PM
I'm almost afraid to watch. Aw screw it, I'm going to watch it regardless.
Nigeria @ Dec 17th 2008 7:22PM
I laughed, very vehement in his hate. I've only played the 360 demo so far and it didn't seem bad, it was rather good in fact, just a tad fast.
Sega need to give Sonic a rest after Black Knight, focus on some of the other characters. Pumping out the hedgehog for an annual outing is going to reduce him to Spyro-Crash levels of interest, which would equal less sales, less investment, a slow spiral into irrelevence.
The new Sega have already lost a lot of human talent, but to lose their greatest icon to apathy would be a shame.
Mr Khan @ Dec 17th 2008 7:37PM
SEGA needs money. They've been having a hard time turning a profit. Sonic makes some fast cash, despite the love and care that they often put into each Sonic title.
Though i agree with your assessment, so long as it leads to a game about a red dreadlocked echidna, fighting to save the master emerald and win the love of a certain white-furred bat...
wiinterfang @ Dec 17th 2008 8:38PM
I'm a big Sonic fanboy and I love this game, I find the review very funny XD.
nnahas @ Dec 17th 2008 8:47PM
Why can't they just make another sonic adventure 2 battle? That was a great game :(
wud_e @ Dec 22nd 2008 6:36PM
Gotta Agree. :(
Nebinator @ Dec 17th 2008 9:23PM
Another hilarious review by zero punctuation! (not sarcasm in any way)
MarkShark @ Dec 17th 2008 9:56PM
Wow, felt like I stepped into /v/. First time I felt that way with Yahtzee.
TX2 @ Dec 18th 2008 12:53AM
The Daytime levels weren't platforming of old. They were blind Trial and error quick reflect minigames you'd see in the bonus stages of a real sonic game.
I'm glad to see some publications on the web aren't so desperate for a return to sonics old form that they'll forgive every garbage bag painted blue.
Rocketboy @ Dec 18th 2008 8:50AM
I have not watched the video, nor did I read the article, but I'm thinking that he did like it,
but that
he LOVED IT!
wud_e @ Dec 22nd 2008 6:35PM
WAAAAHHHH!!! I was hoping this would be a good Sonic game. :(
