Miyamoto unsure about next Zelda announcement
There's an entertaining interview with Shigeru Miyamoto over at the Official Nintendo Magazine site, in which Shiggy mostly comes across as a bumbling, endearing eccentric: apparently, he "strummed on an invisible guitar" for the entire interview, and voiced his suspicions that his cat is hiding games from the Miyamoto family. Ha.Anyway, the article is mainly designed to promote Wii Music, but there is the odd very vague comment about the next Zelda. The opportunists at ONM couldn't resist mentioning the 'Z' word, but Miyamoto wasn't budging too much. "I'm really not sure when we'll be able to make a public announcement on that," he said, adding, "I can't even say if the next E3 will be the right opportunity to do so. But rest assured, our teams are working on new projects right now."
So the next Zelda ... might not be at E3 next year! If that's the case, we could reasonably expect to see something at Nintendo's fall conference(s). We'd at least like to have a peek next year -- having downloaded Ocarina of Time from the Virtual Console over the weekend (spoiler: it's still unfathomably brilliant), this blogger is aching for a new entry in the series.

My estimate on that is Spring 2010. Holiday 2009 seems too early, imo, while Holiday 2010 seems too late.
I just don't see it, at this point. Their headliners for the next E3 will be the new Pikmin, the Factor 5 mystery game, and more info on Punch-Out!!
Ferco @ Dec 16th 2008 5:30PM
The headliners for the next E3 will be SMILES, SMILES and more SMILES.
Dylan @ Dec 16th 2008 5:10PM
Ugh! This pisses me off. There still nothing on the next Zelda.
Sisyphus @ Dec 16th 2008 5:23PM
I want to see Nintendo create something interesting besides Zelda.
TWOO DEE @ Dec 16th 2008 5:33PM
i don't care either way.
i think i'm finally ready to boot up twilight princess for a second go round tonight, tho...yee!

"and voiced his suspicions that his cat is hiding games from the Miyamoto family. Ha."
I believe it. My cat hides my camera all the time. Weirdest thing. She picks it up by the cord and runs off with it. I usually find it under the couch or in the pantry closet.
Also, I was never expecting Zelda to show up at E3. The October press conference is a reasonable guess, but I would personally bet against it.

My cat's fascinated with this pincushion/doll we have. Liable to bat it all over the house when he has a mind, and it's not supposed to be his toy.
Strange creatures indeed

I smell a new nintendo game!
Shadow31 @ Dec 16th 2008 6:20PM
True. Miyamoto is notorious for making games based off his experiences. I mean, Pikmin was completely inspired by his backyard garden from when he was a child...
So you're a kleptomaniac cat that... actually, I don't think I could write this. Only Miyamoto can turn something so stupid or random into a genius idea... I mean, an Italian plumber climbing a skyscraper to save his girlfriend from a giant ape?
timmy @ Dec 16th 2008 10:20PM
I say that your finding cats that had stolen everything in your house. you can use any items in your disposale to capture the damned things. the more cats you find, the more your house is restored... full of weapons to destroy the feline enemy!

Hmm... pissed. Zelda is my favorite series and there's still been no news of the series basically since Twilight Princess. (Note, I don't count Phantom Hourglass or Link's Crossbow Training... they're spin-offs, and I want console Zelda anyways). No news for a couple years... and with Zelda games, usually it's a good 4 years after the game is announced that it comes out. (At least the good ones. See OoT and TP...) At this rate, the next Zelda most likely will be pushed to the next Nintendo system...
4 years plus a minimum of next fall... is before holidays, 2013. Grrr...
Paltry @ Dec 17th 2008 2:22PM
The Phantom Hourglass is hardly a "spin-off". If you have just been sticking to Zelda games made for consoles, then its definitely your loss.
Shadow31 @ Dec 17th 2008 5:31PM
I've played and beaten every Zelda game, console or handheld. But Phantom Hourglass had the gimicky stylus control. It was fun, yes, but it was just a spin-off sequel for Wind Waker rather than a game in itself. Geez.
BDR @ Dec 16th 2008 8:02PM
You best not be saying Majora's Mask is bad, second only to OoT in my books.
zchry @ Dec 19th 2008 8:47PM
For me, Ocarina of Time > Link's Awakening > Majora's Mask.
I have a thing for the more unique storylines, but there's no denying the brilliance of Ocarina of Time.
BrewBoy @ Dec 16th 2008 8:03PM
They sure know how to tease!

You'd think they'd be all over wii ocarina

Ladies and gentle men have I got news for all you out there thinking Nintendo has left their core fans in the dust with no hardcore games. There are many talks raging on about facts that word got out from a hidden Nintendo comment that Mario and link will be getting there first big huge epic break in a all new game together that will address to all core gamers that Nintendo has not let their core gamers in the dark and that this new Mario and Zelda game will have a much darker tone that will set new heights for all action/platformers to new never before seen game play! So far I have been emailing Nintendo about this and still waiting for their answer. The last thing I remember this information was on was Gonintendo.com, Qj.net, youtube.com, Cubed3.com, and NintendoFanboy.com. But when I went back to those sites I noticed that the links have all been removed! Now I know Nintendo has something to do with that and now I no that this is no rumor people! Lets just hope all this is true because this will be the best f...ing game that Nintendo will be giving their hardcore fans for years to come!
zchry @ Dec 17th 2008 10:48AM
You're *just* getting Ocarina of Time on Virtual Console? I think that was the first thing I bought.
Sisyphus @ Dec 17th 2008 11:25AM
I've never played a Zelda newer than LttP, and I've still never beaten it.
zchry @ Dec 19th 2008 8:45PM
That's a straight-up shame. Ocarina of Time is such a masterpiece. It's best on the N64, but that may be a nostalgia thing.
But LttP is great, and so is Link's Awakening. Majora's Mask is good, but really could've used all-new graphics.
CJLopez @ Dec 17th 2008 1:35PM
Think 'll start playing the old zeldas while I wait fot the new one.
already started playing the first nintendo zelda and I have a twilight princess midway already
