Wii Warm Up: Did your animals cross?

Animal Crossing is one of those games that really seems to produce severely divided opinions. Some people scoff at the mere mention of the franchise while others are willing to sit, bloodshot and cramped, for hours, pruning weeds and fishing. Y'know, doing all those Animal Crossing kinds of things.

This Animal Crossing has some neat additions, but the gameplay is, well, it's Animal Crossing. Knowing that, did you try it? Is that what you wanted? If you're not much into the franchise, did you at least rent it, or maybe borrow the game from a friend?

I used to love Animal Crossing to death on the gamecube. I also loved it on the DS for a long time.

But after a few long months of playing the games, I came to realize how stupid they are. They're just not fun to me anymore.

I guess you can call me an ex-fan of the series.

Addicted once more. It's way more fun when someone else is in to it with you. I've gotten my Girlfriend into it and I am getting my mom back into it by getting it for her for Christmas. A couple of my friends and coworkers are getting it for Christmas and it will be fun to play and talk online. I am an ex-hardcore gamer (I just dont have the time to get so involved in a game anymore...I want to really just don't have the time) and it is a great game to sit down and relax with after work. You can play as little or as much as you want. I'll get to Gears 2 eventually I promise.

I had a quick play and I liked it although quite similar to the Gamecube version - no bad thing. My fellow writer at gamepoeple though LOVES it. So much so that she is blogging weekly about her town.

Loving it! Never played any earlier iteration, so I'm glad they didn't change a lot of stuff...Also, Nintendo in sweden has two villages with gates always open, and anyone (in sweden) can join. And if you meet a non-friend in a village you don't have to exhange codes to be friends, just click in the list. It's almost like a very cute MMO!

So, it's basically like the Sims, right? Sims2 was fun for a couple of hours but then I got bored with the lack of concrete goals and gave up.

Daniel, the fossils are back, they look much better, and there are more of them.

They aren't as easy to find, though. You really have to use the new camera change to find them a lot of the time.

My wife and I are addicted. It is kind of competitive. She caught two stringfish (15,000 bells), one a day after the other. Now I'm trying to get one.

We also play online with a friend. We have found this kind of buggy, though. She can visit our town, but we can't get out to visit hers.

I have yet to touch it, but I loved ACWW... didn't get into it on GC to much.. I borrowed it from a friend for a little bit but I only got to play it for about an hour.

i dont find joy in virtual pruning weeds and killing bugs in my virtual apartment among a crapton of other meaningless tasks. this game is lame and i dont have to play it to know that.

No, sorry, you still don't get an OPINION on the game because you don't have anything to base it on. Your preconceptions are one thing and it would be unreasonable to play every single game ever made, but you don't get to decide a game is "lame" until you've played it a reasonable amount. (And "not at all" is not a reasonable amount.)

i was extremely into the GC version and also loved the ds version for quite awhile, but it just looks like not enough has changed here. i still have a soft spot for AC, but i have a feeling it's just going to be too similar to warrant me purchasing it. i have it in my gamefly queue, though.

I liked the original Animal Crossing, but I eventually got bored of it. (Everyone gets bored of every game eventually, I guess.) Then I bought Wild World and realized that I was already tired of it before I even started playing. It was too similar to the first game. I'm not repeating that mistake with City Folk.

im replying to your reply on mine. you are incorrect. very incorrect. you mean to tell me you can look at say, alvin and the chipmunks music game or pong toss:frat games and still think "hey, i might like that game!"

i will never find fun in doing virtual tasks in a video game. virtual gardening, working on my feng shui skills... NO THANKS! i got chores to get done in real life, why would i want to do it again FOR FUN?

I have to admit that after playing AC on the GameCube for two years, I felt myself ultimately burned out and I didn't enjoy AC:Wild World on the DS for longer than a couple of days. It was way too much of the same. So I never intended to get City Folk.

Then I started watching some videos and good ol' nostalgia kicked in (especially for the music!) and I buckled and got it.

I am enjoying it very much! It has a few extremely annoying things about it, such as the on screen keyboard with no shortcut keys for Shift, space, or backspace (instead, the keys that normally handle backspace and Shift on the Wii Menu keyboard cancels the entire message and you have to start over from scratch. ARGH!!!) but so far the things that really got annoying to me in the GCN and DS versions haven't gotten on my nerves.

I'm pleasantly surprised and enjoying City Folk about as much as I enjoyed Animal Crossing on the GameCube 6 years ago. Perhaps even more, now that I have a wife to play it with. (This in itself is a great feat! She generally hates games and sees no value in them, but I've got her started on a few.)

Had AC:GC and AC:DS. Now have the Wii version even though it's not very different. Now my wife's playing too and we love it.

At first I was kinda reluctant to get it since I'd played the GC one a lot and lost interest after awhile and everybody's been saying they didn't change much, but I decided to pick it up anyway. Heck, it was my birthday last week, so why not. And now I'm enjoying it a lot. Even though there are a few annoying things about it (having to whip out the pointer for just navigating menus can get annoying after awhile), it's actually a lot better than I expected.
... However, my ten bucks say this one'll probably go the same way as the GC one for me and die out after about six months. Or maybe online'll help it last longer, you never know.

i guarantee youve seen some games and written them off before playing them (everyone has). you can absolutely have an opinion from a game without having to play it. ive seen trailers, people playing it on the gamecube while at friends houses and game play vids of this game and nothing interests me one bit. why is this concept so hard for you to comprehend?
